You're Not Doing It Right
You're Not Doing It Right: Tales of Marriage, Sex, Death, and Other Humiliations | Michael Ian Black
7 posts | 11 read | 10 to read
Following his first book of hilarious essays in My Custom Van, Michael Ian Black expands his commentary to the subject that has made him one of the most-followed celebrities on Twitter: his irreverent take on the joys of suburban family life. In the tradition of Christian Landers hipster/yuppie-friendly bestselling catalog of observations in Stuff White People Like, Michael Ian Black delivers his unique brand of quirky, deadpan humor in this new collection of comedic essays. Now that Black has become the guy he swore hed never bea Yuppie A-Holehe has a lot to say about his family life in suburbia, and he shares his incisive yet absurd observations with readers in Clappy as a Ham. Chronicling his adventures from cruising the neighborhood for his inevitable future divorce house (despite being happily married) to listening to Lite FM and realizing he loves it, Black delivers his straightfaced musings with the same sardonic humor that has earned him a rabid cult following. Want to know the pros and cons of Kashi GoLean Crunch or why kindergarten recitals are so boring? Looking for tips for lying to your kids about Santa? Clever, dry, and laugh-out-loud funny, Clappy as a Ham will blow your mind all over your face just like My Custom Van.

I am surprised by how much I enjoyed this collection! Brutally honest with Black's comedy style, it was also an insightful look at marriage, raising children, and aging. I laughed out loud a few times in the school pick up line because I related so much to his descriptions of parenting.

Mehso-so

As much as I love MIB, I simply did not love this book. I feel like I didn‘t get what I signed up for. Like I wouldn‘t go to McDonalds, expecting a 5 star meal. So I didn‘t think I‘d read a book from a man who typically makes me laugh and instead find it depressing me. Black‘s observations on life are somewhat relatable, just not what I was looking for -a typical problem I find with comedians who write memoirs. Still love MIB, just not this read.

Going in a completely different direction again for my next read. Michael Ian Black‘s books have been on my radar for a long time, but not along as MIB himself. His particular brand of humor isn‘t for everyone, but I‘m a big fan so I hope to be, at the very least, mildly amused. #litsyatoz #lettery

“No good rock music has ever come from Florida. Undoubtedly, there will be legions of offended readers who think to themselves, What are you talking about! Such-and-such band is from Florida and they're freaking awesome! No, whatever band you are thinking of, if they are from Florida, they suck. Not as much as Creed, but they still suck.”

😂😂😂

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I may have to read this, I can just hear his voice saying this as I read it! 7y
2BR02B He makes a really good point, actually. Florida has produced more boy bands than any other state. 7y

Extremely funny, lots of dark humor. He says a lot of politically incorrect things which I loved because Nothing felt fake or trumped up. He is really open about his depression, marriage issues, parenting challenges and well everything. I have always loved him as an actor and now I love him as an author too. I can't wait to read his other books.

Reviewsbylola I read one of his earlier books. He's very funny! 7y
