Suffer Little Children
Suffer Little Children: A Sister Fidelma Mystery | Peter Tremayne
4 posts | 3 read | 4 to read
Sister Fidelma returns in another spellbinding story of murder and intrigue in seventh-century Ireland--when the murder of a high cleric threatens to result in a bloody war between two of Ireland's kingdoms. In A.D. 644, the Venerable Dacan, a respected scholar of the Celtic Church, is murdered while on a visit to the Abbey of Ros Ailithir in the Irish Kingdom of Muman. Dacan, unfortunately, was the close confidant of the hot-headed young king of the neighboring kingdom of Fearna, who is using Dacan's murder as an excuse to provoke war. Sister Fidelma, an advocate of the Brehon courts, is summoned by the dying King of Muman to solve the brutal killing and also to prevent the incipient war between the two kingdoms. But, at the remote abbey, Fidelma soon discovers that there are far more sinister forces than mere political intrigue at work behind the mystery of Dacan's death. She must quickly unravel a most complicated mystery if she is to prevent the coming war--and preserve her own life as well. With a mix of historical detail and deft characterization, Peter Tremayne once again brings ancient Ireland to full, vivid life.

Sunday was 60+ degrees! So #HyggeHourReadathon became all day #hygge! The sun & the brilliant blue skies spurred us on to open the porch. So of course I sat there with my coffee & my book, enjoying the walkers & cyclists as they went by.Pictures:a slice of the porch,my book, daffodil shoots,my cherry vanilla ice cream cone,Granville Scoop, the ice cream shop we visited. My reading hour was a soothing night cap to a glorious day! ☀️🧹☕️📖🌱🍦Such joy!

Mehso-so

This mystery, set in 7th century Ireland, has a complicated plot.Sister Fidelma is an advocate of the courts. She is called upon by her brother, heir to the Cashel kingdom,to investigate the murder of a renowned scholar. The investigation takes Sister Fidel on a prolonged & tortuous journey to discover the truth. At times I felt impatient with this oblique & unfathomable quest, but In the end,all the puzzle pieces fit.#bookedintime #serieslove2024

kspenmoll I gave it a So-So because there were times when I seriously thought of just giving up! If I wasn‘t reading other books at the same time I may have. (edited) 2mo
