In studying the plant family Plantaginaceae, I came across the genus Veronica. The common name of Veronica is Speedwell. Funny thing, Veronica Speedwell is the title character in Deanna Raybourn‘s current mystery series. 😂

EvieBee That is so awesome! We have a lot of Veronicas in our family. Had no idea it was a plant. Also...that series is on my list! 4y
StaceGhost I love all the little jokes she has characters make about it in the series it‘s so cute lol 4y
Lynnsoprano @EvieBee It is one of my favorite series. @StaceGhost There are so many levels to those books. 4y

Those of you who know me well know that I‘m a master gardener and a lover of botanical gardens. I‘ve been working hard recently on learning plant taxonomy and identification, including studying the tagged book. But I think it‘s important to have a sense of humor, even if you‘re a geek. Maybe especially if you‘re a geek😂

Soubhiville 🤣 4y
Nute lol 4y
Crazeedi I love learning the botanical names and classifications. For a time I was really into plant identification , especially the one that grew where I lived. I have a book that you mark dates you find each one. 4y

Lynnsoprano @Crazeedi We‘re currently watching a Great Courses series called The Botanist‘s Eye. After each lecture I sit down with the tagged book to go over the plant families the lecture covered. I‘ve been surprised by how many of the plants we have are covered, since we‘re almost a subtropical environment. 4y
Tracyantoon 😂 I love it when businesses make nerdy signs like that! Perfect! 4y
Reggie I used to work at a restaurant wth at was down the street from a nursery and their sign at the time said Pansies are in. And we used to have this coworker who complained all the time. Finally another coworker told him to shut up and shouldn‘t he be at the nursery because the pansies were in. It was so funny at the time. We all had a great laugh. 4y

You know you‘ve been badly bitten by the botany bug when you pause your walk to look at the veination of a leaf and bring home a flower to dissect to help identify the plant 😂 It‘s a spider lily, or giant crinum, Crinum asiaticum. Proud of my first real plant ID, and I never expected to get this excited about plant parts😄

Between reading the tagged book and watching a Great Courses lecture series called The Botanist‘s Eye, I am expanding my knowledge of plant identification. On our walk today, I took a close look at this tree and identified it as a member of the pine family because it has fascicles. Now to actually identify the plant😄

Lcsmcat I love the Great Courses! I learn so much. 4y
Lynnsoprano @Lcsmcat They have saved my sanity through the pandemic. Hubby and I had watched quite a few before, but @Alisnazzy gifted us a subscription to the streaming service, and it‘s been the best gift ever! We have three courses in progress at the moment. 4y
Lcsmcat @Lynnsoprano Which ones are your favorites? I am doing Classic Russian literature right now. 4y

Lynnsoprano @Lcsmcat Oh, gosh, that‘s hard! The one on the Black Death is excellent. We‘re finishing the history of Eastern Europe right now, and I‘ve gotten so much from that, especially since we had lived in Prague while hubby was on sabbatical. I really liked the great trials of history. We tend to do science and history. There‘s a really good course that we watched on the science of science fiction. 4y
Lcsmcat @Lynnsoprano The Black Death one is excellent! I keep looking for more with that lecturer. 4y
Lynnsoprano @Lcsmcat It‘s an older course, but she did one on the history of the Middle Ages that was excellent. 4y
Lcsmcat @Lynnsoprano I‘ll have to look for that one. 4y

A new addition to my gardening library, since I want to get better at plant identification. The title is clearly a misnomer; I will be lucky to absorb all this material in a year 😂
