In studying the plant family Plantaginaceae, I came across the genus Veronica. The common name of Veronica is Speedwell. Funny thing, Veronica Speedwell is the title character in Deanna Raybourn‘s current mystery series. 😂

Those of you who know me well know that I‘m a master gardener and a lover of botanical gardens. I‘ve been working hard recently on learning plant taxonomy and identification, including studying the tagged book. But I think it‘s important to have a sense of humor, even if you‘re a geek. Maybe especially if you‘re a geek😂
You know you‘ve been badly bitten by the botany bug when you pause your walk to look at the veination of a leaf and bring home a flower to dissect to help identify the plant 😂 It‘s a spider lily, or giant crinum, Crinum asiaticum. Proud of my first real plant ID, and I never expected to get this excited about plant parts😄
Happy Valentine‘s Day, everyone. I just couldn‘t resist!
Between reading the tagged book and watching a Great Courses lecture series called The Botanist‘s Eye, I am expanding my knowledge of plant identification. On our walk today, I took a close look at this tree and identified it as a member of the pine family because it has fascicles. Now to actually identify the plant😄
A new addition to my gardening library, since I want to get better at plant identification. The title is clearly a misnomer; I will be lucky to absorb all this material in a year 😂
