16 posts | 11 read | 2 reading | 5 to read
Ranging from the Colombian slums to New York City, from the streets of Tehran to a boat in the South China Sea, an inventive collection of short fiction explores the complexities of human relationships and the challenges we face, in a volume that includes the title story, in which refugees aboard a crowded fishing trawler confront a harrowing choice. A first collection. 50,000 first printing.

Mehso-so

Between a Pan and a So-so. I really liked the first story. The rest couldn't keep my attention. In the end I viewed the web-comic format for the last story which was great! If you are thinking about this book - maybe just head to the web-comic?

Bailedbailed

I had such high expectations for this collection of short stories but I've decided to bail. I enjoyed the first story but I couldn't even finish the second or third and the fourth is looking the same. Plus for short stories they're really long which I don't like. My first #bail for 2018 (though I started it in 2017).

LeeRHarry I really didn't like this one either 7y
Joanne1 @LeeRHarry glad it's not just me! 7y

I've had this collection of short stories sitting, unread, on my shelf for years. It's one of my #fivestarpredictions and it has finally made it to the top of my TBR.

MrsMalaprop I chose this for book club years ago. Enjoy 😊. 7y

Thanks to @JillR for tagging me for #fivestarpredictions. These are all books that have been on my radar for ages and on my own shelf for almost as long. I'm desperately trying to get through my mountain in unread books and I'm really looking forward to all of these. I'm now tagging @Victoria_Clyne @Jeg @Fernoppy to share five reads you're looking forward to.

Abailliekaras Great stack! 7y

I finally got around to checking out the web-based graphic novel adaptation of The Boat, based on the story by Nam Le, adapted by Matt Huynh. It was incredible!

Check out my full review and get the link to the interactive site here: http://ericarobynreads.blogspot.com/2017/02/interactive-graphic-novel-review-the...

#booklove17 #day4 #secondchances I chose this debut from Nam Le for my Book Club to read a number of years ago. It's a book of exceptionally well-written and powerful short stories.
From the inside cover: "In 1979, Nam Le's family left Vietnam for Australia, an experience that inspires the first and last stories in The Boat". #secondchances

Pickpick

A beautifully imagined, deeply moving collection of stories that are as diverse and exciting as they are vividly rendered. A total treat by a young Aussie virtuoso.
