Resisting an irresistible force wears you down and turns you out. I know. I've been doing it for years. I may not have a musical gift of my own, but I've got a nose for talent and an eye for the extraordinary. And Marlon James - Grip to his fans - is nothing short of extraordinary. Years ago, we strung together a few magical nights, but I keep those memories in a locked drawer and I've thrown away the key. All that's left is friendship and work. He's on the verge of unimaginable fame, all his dreams poised to come true. I manage his career, but I can't seem to manage my heart. It's wild, reckless, disobedient. And it remembers all the things I want to forget.

Good gah almighty, these were all great! Flow is the prequel, followed by Grip and Still, and should be read in order. A searing romance with epic chemistry, while also tackling the (sometimes uncomfortable) nuances of navigating an interracial relationship in the spotlight. Grip is a black poet, rapper, and burgeoning activist, and he's been in love with Bristol, his spitfire manager, since the week they met. The last twist was a gut punch ❤️

Book two in the Grip trilogy.
Grip is Black and Bristol is white and I really appreciate how Ryan tackles so much in just 400 pages and how raw, honest and uncomfortable the conversations between her characters are. Just some topics that are discussed here are Black panther, Black / blue lives, police brutality, racial profiling and how biracial relationships can send shockwaves through families and communities. Thank you to @Kassiah for recommending Grip, Flow, and Still! I have loved these characters and I‘m sad to be finishing up Still tonight!

4.5 ⭐️

This one was recommended by a bookstagramer I follow and I didn‘t read any description first. I wasn‘t expecting the difficult topics it would cover. I loved the way the author handled these subjects. I highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this book. I love Bristol and Grips love story. I thought Bristol was too darn stubborn, but I was happy when she finally gave in and admitted her feelings for Grip

I still wish the angsty refusal to honestly communicate had taken fewer pages. While I‘m not a fan of instalove, there‘s a point when slow burn becomes tedious. BUT, when we finally get past that...**sigh** Grip & Bristol may be one of my fav couples. I loved their relationship once it started to develop and the ending was swoon worthy. A solid 4 ⭐️ #romantsy, despite terminology that makes me grind my teeth.

keys_on_fire So it turned out okay? Yay!! 7y

Do you ever read a book and just want to scream at the characters? Just talk to each other, already! For the love of God!! I know if they did that, there‘d be no story, but at the 35% mark, I‘m just so frustrated with the angst that would go away if they would just sit down and talk honestly with each other! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

I mean, I like the writing & I love the H/h, just enough already! I want to lock the two of them in a room until they talk.

keys_on_fire This is my problem with 90% of romance novels (don‘t know if this is one or not) bcuz they are written in third person. The reader knows why each character has a problem with the other so there is very little suspense. Regardless of whether this is a romance, I FEEL your pain 😂😂 7y
DGRachel @keys_on_fire This is actually in first person with alternating points of views between the two main characters (and yes, it‘s a romance novel). So, we‘re stuck in each head knowing how they feel about each other and knowing why the keep the things unsaid that are unsaid. I just want to shake them both. 😂 7y
keys_on_fire @DGRachel 😮 Omg. Hopefully it‘s a good payoff!! 7y

Grip is a Kindle deal for just 0.99usd, while its prequel (Flow) is a freebie. I grabbed both romance titles because I've seen my friend @readbyher raving about it in the past few days.

GRIP is so many things, it touches on so many things. Things that are so relevant to the world we are currently living in. This story is real, above all else, it's real. Told from both Bristol and Grip's perspective it not just touches on, but shines a light on the difference in their upbringings and their mindsets as they navigate their lives and their relationship. And readers can relate; maybe not to all things, but at least to some.

"'You alone are my dream,' she says, adapting the quote, tears in the eyes she refuses to pull away from me. 'And I alone am yours.'"

*sigh*

I swear I will read this book once a month. There's nothing out there like it. And I'll never get enough.
