Chaos and Order
Chaos and Order: The Gap Into Madness | Stephen R. Donaldson
3 posts | 3 read
As the planetoid Thanatos Minor explodes into atoms, a specially-fitted cruiser escapes the mass destruction and hurtles into space only a step ahead of hostile pursuit. On board Trumpet are a handful of bedraggled fugitives from an outlaw world - old enemies suddenly and violently thrown together in a desperate bid for survival. Among this unlikely crew of allies are Morn Hyland, once a UMC cop, now a prisoner to the electrodes implanted in her brain; her son, Davies, "force-grown" to adulthood by the alien Amnion and struggling to understand his true identity; the amoral space buccaneer Nick Succorso, whose most daring act of piracy could be his last; and Angus Thermopyle, unstoppable cyborg struggling to wrest control of his own mind from his UMC programmers. From the Paperback edition.

Here‘s a few #chaos titles from some favourite authors on my shelves (except the Buffy book which I haven‘t read yet). I really want to reread Stephen R. Donaldson‘s Gap cycle (tagged is book #4) and R.A. Salvatore‘s Cleric Quintet has been on my reread radar for a long time too. I read the Chronicles of Amber about a year ago or so ago & really enjoyed Zelazny‘s writing. I‘ll probably reread those sometime too! #MagnificentMarch

1. Frank Herbert's Dune series & Stephen R. Donaldson's Gap Cycle.
2. Nintendo's Dr. Mario & Cobra Command
3. I wouldn't call them an 80s band since their career spanned 4 decades, Rush put out some awesome music in the 80s! Also: Billy Idol & the Pet Shop Boys. I know there's lots more, but those are the first few that came to mind!
4. The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Dune, Back to the Future, Aliens, The Wall

I'm fascinated by imperfect characters who rise above their flaws or, better yet, use their flaws to achieve some kind of victory that a more virtuous character couldn't pull off. Michael Moorcock's Elric is one of my favourite anti-heroes, but Stephen Donaldson has to be the king of flawed characters: Thomas Covenant, Linden Avery, Angus Thermopyle, Morn Hyland, & countless others. #OctPhotoChallenge #AntiheroOrFlawedCharacter
