Enjoying this so far... now that I‘ve finally got it (accidentally borrowed the sequel not realising it was part of series but happily realised before I‘d started reading)

This was more between a pick and a so-so for me, but I‘ll round up. The first of a mystery series (next one out in Sept.), set in 1860s London featuring a courtesan/actress who also occasionally helps a detective agency when a woman is needed. Here she is tasked with finding a young, pregnant, unmarried aristocrat who is missing while a madman is preying upon pregnant prostitutes in gruesome ways. Very dark with a strong, independent heroine. 🔽
Up next, another mystery, another ARC from #NetGalley...although this one‘s been out awhile.
🤞🤞🤞
Got this one from netgalley so far I‘m liking it..
That's an interesting way to start a book...🎆🎇✨
This book is pretty good actually but it's not for me:
✔ Intriguing plot
✔ Blend of Victorian + Oriental components which I enjoy
✔ Good storytelling
❌ Not one likeable characters
❌ Explicit sexual content
❌ Some issues left unexplained although did not affect the whole story
Rating: 3🌟

I loved this Victorian era mystery. I'd definitely read more in this series.
This was an enjoyable read for me—I have a soft spot for Victorian novels featuring courtesans-was told by a friend that I may have been one in a past life, but I digress😜. Past lives aside, Helen Chauncey is a great character-courtesan, brilliant detective and all-round strong & independent woman of her day. Crossing my fingers hat this becomes a series. 💜👍🏽
A professional detective/courtesan solving crimes in Victorian London? Yes, please!!!!!!
Late night reading. I enjoyed this historical fiction mystery. It read like a cozy mystery with just enough suspense to keep the pages turning. Tjia does a great job of keeping you guessing who the murderer is and I can honestly say I didn't guess right. It was also a unique spin to have a courtesan moonlight as a amateur detective.
