10 posts | 9 read | 7 to read
In the classic Miracles, C.S. Lewis, the most important Christian writer of the 20th century, argues that a Christian must not only accept but rejoice in miracles as a testimony of the unique personal involvement of God in his creation.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This isn‘t an easy book to read.It is classic C.S. Lewis nonfiction: a strong mix of philosophy, science, dry humor, and faith.I'm glad I read this with a group because if I had been reading it on my own, I would not have continued to fight my way through to understanding. That being said, I love the way Lewis constructs an argument. He will win me over with his logical reasoning every time. You'll have to work for it, but I recommend it.

This was just okay. The first two thirds of the book was a philosophical defense of why there can be miracles. The last part was more interesting as Lewis moved into a discussion of the miracle of the Incarnation and the miracles of Jesus. One quote that I like: "in all [Jesus'] miracles alike the incarnate God does suddenly and locally something God has done it will do in general."

My number one favorite book is Till We Have Faces by C. S. Lewis.

Miracles comes in as number two. Please read this book. It is magnificent.

"It is Reason herself which teaches us not to rely on Reason only... For Reason knows that she cannot work without materials."

quote

"You must go a little away... And then turn around, and look back. Then at last the true landscape will become visible. You must have tasted, however briefly, the pure water from beyond the world before you can be distinctly conscious of the hot, salty tang of Nature's current. To trust her as God, or as Everything, is to lose the whole pith and pleasure of her. Come out, look back, and then you will see..."

It seems I can't stay away from good ole Clive Staples' books. Reading his words are like a breath of fresh air.

Foragingfantasy I've read The Great Divorce at least 5 times. If you've never seen the movie Shadowlands, go find it. It's Anthony Hopkins as CS Lewis when he meets Joy. It's wonderful. 8y
cottagelantern @Foragingfantasy oh my gosh, that sounds fantastic! I will have to check it out!! 8y
