Goodbye Tsugumi | 
panThis has been the most disappointing of my #womenintranslation reads this month.
The characters were such a drag I didn't want to pick the book up. A book that should have taken me an afternoon to read stretched to over a week. The book revolves around the main character and her ill and rude cousin. I was annoyed by the amount of times the cousin called people stupid, idiot, ugly, dumb, and more. It was painful.

I had hoped to finish this a couple of days ago for G day but honestly it has been a bit of a slog. Will definitely finish it but I am wondering if this was the best Yoshimoto book to begin with.

This book is a master piece like always its pure Japanese. I don't wanna talk a lot about the story. But its super awesome and charming.
The book is narrated by a girl called Maria she told the story of her life in a village at the seaside along with her cousin Tsugumi. 🎆
The book very engaging and short. It's also a beautiful summer read.
pickThis story explores the inner journey of Maria as she experiences major life changes while moving into adulthood. Yoshimoto's writing effectively captures the nostalgia of leaving what is familiar behind. Her creative descriptions of physical settings beckon your soul to the seaside. No thrills here, just a gentle read that brings you into the emotions of the main character.
pickMy first read from Banana, referred by a colleague, and also my first Japanese literature. Filled with emotions and defining relationships. I could totally relate to Tsugumi, a person who expresses things opposite to what she actually feels but influences you in a deep way. And I loved the character Maria, who is a friend everyone wants to have.

Some hellos and goodbyes in titles! I'm a bit intrigued by the top left corner one which is called Hello, Groin. So far I've only read Goodbye Tsugumi and Good-bye Chunky Rice
Hoshimoto's books hold a very unique atmosphere within and although I wasn't able to warm up with Tsugumi (just too much of a selfish brat) I had to finish this one. It's #setinasmalltown somewhere in Japan. Love this photo challenge because it makes me sit in front of my bookshelf, looking at all the worlds with different eyes ^^ #photoadaynov16
