This book is a wonderful summary of many women around the world involved in the wild world of #STEM
#KatherineJohnson (pictured here with one of my favourite quotes) will always have a special place in my heart 💔

“Never be limited by other people‘s imaginations” -Mae Jemison, Doctor and Astronaut
Been waiting on this for MONTHS and there will be no sleep this weekend 😍🌻📖🦾
She is so brilliant. And sassy. And strong. And is probably one of my new heroes.

For an outstanding series, this one still sits apart from the rest. So many significant plot lines, a character set that grows and changes with eachother in complex (and sometimes terrifying) ways, and COOL SPACE SCIENCE.
The show on Amazon follows up to book 6, but there‘s a whole ‘nother trilogy after that 😉

Malala Yousafzai, the youngest person to be a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, fought for the rights of girls to pursue education in Pakistan. She continues to advocate for change in the treatment of women, refugees and marginalized persons throughout the world.
This book is by the father of this amazing woman, as he reflects on the time raising her and her brothers. I‘ve never cried so hard in a prologue.

This is an amazing set of essays, and a very unique perspective of journeys. Rethinking care, how we interact and the way we stigmatize mental care and living with mental illness is brought out in all its dirty linens to sit on the examination table.
Love this. I only wish there were more of these essays to read.

“How much mental illness is acceptable,
And how much is going to be too much?”
So dark. And rich. And vulnerable. Usually, a library audiobook is returned immediately, so others can enjoy it. This time, I‘ll be quietly, numbly thinking about everything I just listened to for the next 6 hours before I have to listen to it all again.
Not… not for the lighthearted. Happy reading.

Thanks for the tag @bthegood ! Love the question set @Eggs ☺️
1. Tagged book, Patsy, just really got me.
…. I‘ll be honest though, I almost tagged my Engineering Mathematics textbook 🤣
2. Fantasy is a definite go-to, but lately has been historical fiction. Mood dependent answer 😉
3. Love After the End, a collection of shorts stories, fantasy/sci-fi, with history and culture sprinkled in
Wanna play #wonderouswednesday @AmyG @allureofbeauty
“Here‘s why I‘m afraid of life after death;
… what if there‘s no nicotine gum?”
This set of essays is definitely for the shadows of the darker side of humor. Trigger warning doesn‘t even begin to cover it, and the sass has me laughing in ways I never thought I could. The stories are very different, but this reminds me of reading Running With Scissors the first time.

Happy James Webb image release day!!!!
This is Stephan‘s Quintet, released by the team seated in the ESA. What a day for science and humanity! 🥳🔭
Did anyone else take note of the amount of women involved in this project? We have a long way to go, but there is some positive change when we keep together and keep going.
See all five images released today at: https://www.nasa.gov/webbfirstimages

Who else is stoked for the image releases??? 😱🥳
Today‘s teaser- an image taken in the space covered by a single grain of sand, held at arm‘s length to the sky. This is galaxy cluster SMACS 0723.

Anyone else hooked by an audiobook when it‘s read by the author? This is a hot contender for best random-stack read/listen of the year.

A powerful set of sci-if short stories, specifically collected from indigenous, queer-identifying authors. They all round an end theme of “…. But what if we tried really f*cking hard to work together” and I can‘t get enough. So much challenge of worldly thinking and cultural norms!

Love it. (Might have been dense in a text-only format)

Absolutely brilliant. Another for any #riordan fans- Rebecca Roanhorse expertly introduces Diné ideas and holy people through an engaging fictional setting. My favourite part is the regular use of Navajo words, with a pronunciation glossary in the back.
What a find!

Wow. These are so good, and my nieces are about to have a wild adventure.
For any #riordan fans out there, these are similar, and explore the ideas and religious figures of Hindu. The main character is bright, sassy and imaginative in a way that I would have loved to see as a child. Shoot, I love to see it now.

This is clever, hilarious and resounding.
Doughty picks apart what has culturally become a very taboo subject in the US- death and how we deal with the dead. She opens many closed doors, and makes jokes about all of our mortality; especially the fact that so many of us never truly contemplate it.
Love this. Hard conversations only, please.

Genuine, unique, strong female protagonist AND a great story from an indiginous perspective? Sign me up twice!
This fiction adventure puts some spinning Navajo concepts in to a world where only the Diné have survived. Excellent author, excellent read. (Check out her children‘s series, too!)

This story of subterfuge and political prison during WW2 is a perspective that borders on witty and charming. Not at all what I expect when reading about accounts of that war. These womens‘ clever, bawdy, deeply ironic humor had me dark-laughing time and again.
No matter our awareness or intention, words have more power than we ever give them credit.

1. Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. Tagged title, and what a mess to call “love.” The book affected me. Deeply. Not for the light of heart.
2. Better is such a strong word! I think one word titles can hold a lot of layers of of meaning in very few characters.
@TheSpineView thanks for spreading!
I wanted to like this. So, so badly. It was sent by a friend, with much hype from them and beyond. But, from the main character‘s first examination of their body, IMMEDIATELY POST AMNESIA, waking among unconscious or dead people being “Well, my boobs are small, but at least I don‘t have cellulite” to the….
Y‘know.
Honestly, I pretty much lost interest there.

Wow. This discussed where the motion picture ends, and follows the stories of the lives after. What a ride through feelings, with some new custom combinations on the analysis feed. Life is messy.
The title takes on so many layers of meaning through these intertwined stories.

This felt like a really strong first draft in a writing exercise. The idea is good. There were some unique lines and fun, spooky guest appearances from Japanese folklore.
It was worth reading, but…. The dialogue. Oof.

I can be a little disconnected from current popular media, so I read this having no idea who Trevor Noah is to Hollywood, comedy or the acting stage. What a power! If there were more of his variety of life truth, poignant snark and raw honesty, I would engage with pop culture more.
There was no putting this book down.

So much simple truth, without being dressed up. The raw honesty without condescending reflection made this a powerful read. This winter has been a strange kick of books around grief, but with the stages of the world, maybe that‘s a trend more appropriate than ever.

Listening to A Man Called Ove and admiring this list of titles coming available. I‘m a student, so my lists don‘t get as impressive as some. These should release just as the one prior is being finished and I am just…. So stoked!
Thank you everyone for all your thoughts and recommendations! 🥰🙇♀️
This is an old friend from early adolescence and my first journeys into King Arthur/Celtic mythic fiction. Re-reading it now, years later, the writing is er…. Dense. Really dense. But, somewhat like Tolkien, very worth the magic of the journey. A unique telling of magic and what it means to be “good.”
#fantasy #dragon #fiction #old #kingarthur #mystic #magic #nature #druid #wizard
Surprise, it‘s… romance? As predictable as the overall plot played through, this was a tale of love and choices, told like no other. I laughed, I cried, I felt things I was in no way prepared to feel on a quick, blind read.
And I‘d do it all over again.

This was an excellent set of short stories. Each one was its own variety of thought-provoking.
A couple great quotes:
"One of my earliest memories is a feeling of incredulity at how many people there are in the world."
"The number of people with the levels of passion it takes to become a ghost are decreasing every year."
Enoki, the short told from the point of view of a once-worshipped tree, was an easy favorite

There are a few books that I keep having to replace on my bookshelf. I can't stop sharing them!
My personal copy is always battered, creased and sometimes slightly boughed.
The book, the thoughts of the author, become a place of comfort, even in the moments where the characters aren't particularly comfortable.
This is one of those books. A summary does it no justice.
