The Waterfall
The Waterfall | Margaret Drabble
3 posts | 4 to read
Jane and Malcolm Grays marriage is characterized by sexual unhappiness and the growing apathy they both feel toward one another. When Jane is confined to bed rest while pregnant with their second child, Malcolm realizes he must escape, leaving Jane in the care of her dear friend and cousin, Lucy, and Lucys husband James. After Jane gives birth, Lucy and James alternate nights with her, and it is during this time alone together that Jane and James fall in love, beginning an affair as marked by guilt as joy. Through Janes struggle to reconcile her relationship with James with her friendship with Lucy, Margaret Drabble gives us an intimate look at a woman caught between the claims of sexual awakening, maternal love and friendship.

Here's my #selfie for #FriYayIntro

I took this at a waterfall between Montreal and Quebec City. It was my first trip to Canada, and I can't wait to go back because I loved it. Another fact is I don't take a lot of selfies because I have a great friend who is a professional photographer so I usually take advantage of that and let her take the pictures!

monalyisha My husband‘s a professional photographer, too! Not that I let that stop me. 😅 But I never make selfies my Facebook profile pic; he gets verrryyy testy. 😆 5y
MallenNC @monalyisha I‘m spoiled bc my dad was a photographer so my childhood pictures are great. 5y
monalyisha @MallenNC Ha! My dad was decidedly NOT. There are many, many terrible photos of me in my Hush Puppy glasses & braces. I do have some “professional” Glamour Shots of me in a motorcycle hat & leather jacket, & one in a leather boa — also with braces, sans glasses (for maximum hotness). 😱 5y

Haven't read this one yet. Published in the late 60s. From what I gather it's about a woman coming to terms with her self and sexuality outside of marriage. I've heard a lot of good things about Drabble; she writes books that I'm drawn to subject-wise, so I should probably read this soon. #waterfalls #AugustGrrrl @Cinfhen
