Today is a perfect fall day meant for reading on the back porch, with temps around 60 here in NC and a delightfully light breeze.🍁🍂🍁
I haven‘t been around much lately, how the heck are ya??🤓

At first I was reluctant to request Sugar Money because I'm a weakling at handling slavery stories sometimes. I turn into a puddle of sobs. But, despite being quite detailed about the hardships of slave life in 1765, it was a very engaging read. It doesn't have a very happy ending, as you might surmise, but it tells a story worth hearing, told very soberly and matter-of-factly. Read the full review here: https://goo.gl/KTcxu5
Amazing book! I didn‘t think I would like it so much! It‘s definitely not the type of story I usually go for but Clearly it‘s a mistake.
This is book 1 of the Bookabuy books and tea subscription my friends got me for my birthday. Best birthday present in the world I think. 2 more books to look forward to ❤️
Excellent historical fiction about slavery in the Caribbean, specifically the island of Granada. The story is based on a real event and is very well adapted. Filled with historical information, suspense, and gruesome details of the torture used on slaves in the islands. I recommend highly.
Got this book in the mail yesterday and am excited to start it—have heard so many great things 😁My coffee is made just to my liking and it is cloudy and dark right now. Alas, I am at work so this is going to wait until lunch. The struggle is real, folks.....but Happy November!
I now see Simon Savidge has reviewed this novel here on Litsy, but not having seen that, how he sold me on it was on his latest Booktube post. A tale of slaves being forced to hunt down other slaves in the Caribbean of the 18th century. Out next month.
Finished this last night. Once again Jane Harris has created an unforgettable narrator with Lucien, a young man sent with his brother on a mission to Grenada the land they both came on. This is a mission with a twist as Lucien and his brother are slaves and their master has given them the mission to smuggle back the slaves claimed by English invaders. What starts as an adventure soon takes a much darker and disturbing turn. Incredible.
