I love this cute series, but there are several problematic things about it. Here's one example rearing its ugly head: virgin shaming.
This is one of those Art Meets Life things that maybe doesn‘t matter to anyone except the person it happened to. I met Mr Chii through JAPANESE STYLE ORIGINATOR, a culture show featuring a panel of celebrities. I got attached to the whole cast. Then, just a couple weeks ago, I learned Chii died in 2012. He‘s been gone the whole time I “knew” him.
This made me weirdly sad.
Now here he is, referenced in PRINCESS JELLYFISH right before his death.
Sunday afternoon involves books by WOC and a beer I absolutely bought for the can.
pickI just came back from AX (Anime Expo in SoCal), and I got to see a few episodes of this anime based off the manga! It reminded me that I actually bought it last year at AX, but hadn't read it yet. I finally got around to it, and finished it basically in just a few hours! I loved it. The art style, the storyline... the only thing that bothers me, of course, is the standard of beauty. But otherwise, it's super cute!
pickBook 4 for #24in48 = done! Volume 5 of this series is my favorite so far, with long-awaited romantic progress finally happening between 2 of the super awkward leads (and some jealousy from the 3rd lead). Also, so thoughtful conversation about why people love the clothes they love, and how to make clothes that people who don't love style will want to wear.

pickI liked the anime and am pleased to report that I‘m even more delighted by the characters in the manga. Yeaaah for time to further develop characters! Also I enjoy learning about different cultural and pop culture references that the book takes time to explain in a list in the back.
pickI love this series! This fifth volume (which collects vols 9 & 10 as published in Japan) pushes the romantic subplot forward, and I. Am. Invested. Shu surprised me here, not so much with his Big Gesture as with how he's actually an okay guy, but y'all know I'm rooting for Kuranosuke because he and Tsukimi are so comfortable together.
But hey, as long as they're still friends, I'll deal. And I love his sorcerer outlook on the situation.
