The song echoes the theme of David Bowie's 1969 song "Space Oddity" (both recordings were produced by Gus Dudgeon), but, according to an account in Elizabeth Rosenthal's book, His Song: The Musical Journey of Elton John, the song was inspired by Taupin's sighting of either a shooting star or distant airplane. The account goes on to relate that the notion of astronauts no longer being perceived as heroes, but in fact as an "everyday occupation" led him to the song's opening lines, "She packed my bags last night, pre-flight. Zero hour: 9 a.m. And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then." The song first appeared on John's 1972 album Honky Chateau and became a hit single, rising to #2 in the UK and #6 in the U.S. It's also used by U2 as an ending during their 360 Tour. I had no idea #50wordsforsnow was a Kate Bush song! I lost track of her in the late 90s but as one can tell from my pictured record collection (vinyl-I‘m old) I used to listen to her ALOT. What does this have to do with books? She wrote a song about Wuthering Heights, Peter Pan and The last chapter of Ulysses...she‘s a reading person‘s recording artist!

HardcoverHearts I literally just bought her box set LPs that was just released. She is an amazing literate lyricist! ❤️❤️❤️ 6y
Ruthiella @Cinfhen Yay 😀 I‘m glad to find another fan! I can tell by many of Trish‘s post that she‘s an 80s music aficionado. 6y

TrishB Love Kate 💕 I‘m well stuck in the 80s...we‘ll all be playing her all day now....side 2 of Hounds of Love should be required listening in every house 😁 (edited) 6y
TrishB @HardcoverHearts I brought these for hubby for Christmas, despite the fact he already has the originals. This new book comes out today too 6y
Ruthiella @TrishB I listened to The Jig of Life so often my roommate at the time made me stop. 😁 6y
Ruthiella @TrishB I think I need that book! 😍 6y
TrishB I‘m singing it now!! I tend to get stuck on songs and drive people mad too. But what a song that is. I think Hounds of Love will be today‘s listening. One of the best albums ever (did I say that already 😁) 6y

1. Something overly dramatic like early Sinead O'Connor or Kate Bush. The shrieky-er the better.
2. Queensland winter: warm, sunny and dry.
3. Probably literary fiction? Followed by sci-fi.
4. Fish and chips with a big salad followed by fresh mango for dessert (first of the season!)
5. No worries!

Readingnomad1 Oh I'd love to be at your table for dinner tonight! 7y
Marchpane @FictionFox Tori Amos fits the bill too! Although I don't know her stuff quite as well, so it's harder for me to howl along (that is the guilty pleasure bit 😆) 7y
FictionFox @Marchpane oh I totally hear you there. What's the point of shrieky music if you can't shriek along lol 7y
monkeygirlsmama Love me some Sinead. 7y
