Not bad. Not great but not bad. It's a fun escape with a decent mystery. I'd recommend reading an ebook or paper copy over the audiobook.

As usual, my planned tbr has gone out the window this month, and I've just been reading and listening to YA of different genres. Please share any recs you might have, especially for horror.

I've begun my #BookerPrize22 reading with Booth and picked up the tagged book during a library browse over the weekend. It's the dark horse of my recent reading. The understated writing, the bitingly dry humor, Joan herself. I'm surprised I haven't seen more talk about it on here.

I think I'll try to read as many of these as I can this month. It'll be good to push myself out of my reading comfort zone.

This blew me away. Dark, eerie, unique, creepy, it's more Gothic haunted house horror about parent-child relationships than thriller. If you go into this thinking it's going to be action-packed from the beginning, you're going to be disappointed. It starts off slow, and there are dual timelines--both from the main character's POV--and man was it worth the build up.

I recommend the audiobook. Xe Sands does a nearly perfect performance.

I've got the sniffles so I'm nesting on the couch, and I was able to finish this. It's fun, pretty fast-paced, and brings up some fascinating concepts. It's a quick read, but the epilogue could've been shorter and less explain-y imo. Also, there was some stereotypical characterization of some of the characters of color that made me uncomfortable. Though I enjoyed this overall, I won't be continuing with the series.

Hi hello. 👋 It's been around six months since I've posted here. Took a little break, and a lot of life happened. I adopted some rat boys and came out as trans--hence the username change on here.

I came across this in Libby's summer scares collection whilst laid up on the couch with what I'm now sure is a summer cold and decided to give it a shot. I was looking for something undemanding that would keep my attention. Though a smidge longer than it needed to be, this fit the bill. There's a lot of action and thrillery bits with bloody violence and paranormal elements. Some dialogue frankly doesn't age well at all and came across as 👇

dylanisreading perpetuating the idea of there being model minorities in one instance and just plain racist in another. I won't be checking out any of Dean Koontz's other work anytime soon, but overall this book was fine to pass the time. 1y
