I wanted to love this, but most of it was just ok. The last selection, though, had far more depth than the rest of the collection. #nonfictionNovember

I really enjoyed this collection of short essays read by various celebrities. I‘d caution that this book may not be for everyone. As a woman in my mid 60s I did find most of it relatable, but realize others may not. The audiobook is definitely the way to experience it best if you‘re going to give it a try.

The hair salon feels like a very appropriate venue for this collection 😛

On the lower end of the pick spectrum. I mostly liked her stories, but the poetry was a little flat. The essay about her dog was touching, and I smiled at the story of her son‘s hamster.

I found this on the library‘s Cloud Library and decided to read it because people are always saying, “60! You don‘t look 60” to me, and I just want to roll my eyes. Of course I do, and I don‘t have a problem with that. I hope this is good.

RebL I get that a lot too, but then one day my nephew came out and said, “Why is your hair like that?” He meant gray. I said, “Don‘t worry about it, kiddo. My doctor said it‘s a normal part of getting older.” 7y
KathyWheeler @RebL 😄 That's honest! I dye my hair right now but will probably stop doing so soon. 7y
RebL I like my original color and would dye my hair, but upkeep is more than I can handle. I know the gray ages me, but ... you do what you can do. 7y

Audio is definitely the way to go with this collection. Nevins‘ reflective essays on aging are inconsistent, but I think the book was well worth the listen (the star-studded cast of narrators includes Martha Stewart, Glen Close, Whoopi‘s Goldberg, RuPaul, and more than 20 more!)

These are the reflections of a Jewish woman who grew up poor and made it big as a documentarian. She became rich. It‘s not going to be for everyone. But I liked it.

Heard her interviewed on NPR & read the book. Short essays, some good, many unexceptional. Her brand of aging centers around plastic surgery & Upper West Side sensibilities. So, will not speak to many women. Maybe that's the point? But aging is universal, isn't it?
