This NF informational book gives many interesting facts about hurricanes and would be a good choice for SR in a classroom. It can be a little graphic at times and therefore I‘d recommend a teacher be there to help clarify information for students. UDL 2.3 works with this book as it does contain informational charts with mathematical symbols. For this reason, it also works with ESOL 30.

AndreaC The following link leads you to an informational page of hurricane facts that supplement the book well. Reading these facts will help the students to better understand the content of the book. http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/weather/hurricane.html #UCFLAE3414f17 6y
DrSpalding Students can make many text to world connections considering these natural disasters occur often in Florida. Good choice. 6y

Howling Hurricanes by Louise Spilsbury is a great NF book to do SR with! This book gives all types of facts and pictures about hurricanes and how they are formed. UDL 2.1 Clarify vocabulary and symbols, ESOL 20. List the most important words and phrases you use or plan to use in a presentation on the chalkboard. #UCFLAE4314F17

Juliemorell Wow this seems like a book kids would be interested in, especially as students in Florida. This would be a fun one to read during hurricane season, and it would educate kids about what hurricanes are/how they happen. Thanks for sharing! 7y
DrSpalding I too think this would be an interesting book for our students living in Florida and through hurricanes. There are many titles related to this topic. One of my favorites is by Gail Gibbons. Believe it or not this is not only a science topic but also, there are social studies standards that could be met utilizing this text. 7y
