Quackers | Liz Wong

Pickpick

Quackers written by Liz Wong is a fiction picture book that tells the story of Quackers, a cat, who lives with the ducks and thinks he‘s a duck. Until one day he meets another cat! This story would be great to be used as a S or RT in a 1st or 2nd grade classroom.

EveAstrouck ESOL strategy: 30. Encourage the use of diagrams and drawings as aids to identify concepts and seeing relationships. UDL: 2.5 illustrate through multiple media. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7_jPcK5vrw #UCFLAE4314F17 7y
KarinaGuillen The layout of this picture book is so cute and original. I love the message it sends about inclusion and loving yourself for who you are. 7y
DrSpalding What kind of fiction? This is a sweet story about inclusion and friendship that should be read to young children! 7y

Pickpick

This F book is a Caldecott award winner and great for CR. This silly book mentions many different imaginative things such as “My house goes walking every day” with the reoccurring phrase “and rain makes applesauce” on every page. UDL 7.1 Optimize individual choice and autonomy. ESOL 30. Encourage the use of diagrams and drawings as aids to identify concepts and seeing relationships. #UCFLAE4314F17

Teresaj Here is a youtube read aloud that the students can follow by choral reading

JanaLL This looks like super fun book to enjoy. The rain makes applesauce? Hee Hee! First choral reading strategy I have seen implemented on Litsy. Good job! 7y
DrSpalding Choral reading sounds just right for this particular title. Great choice. Sounds like the perfect opportunity to share some applesauce with the kids too!🍎 7y

This HF Caldecott award winner is about a boy named Hugo. He keeps all the clocks in the train station going while trying to fix a machine his father left behind. With the help of his friends he discovers something amazing. This book would be great for IR so that each student can really appreciate the amazing illustrations throughout the book. UDL 3.1 Activate or supply background knowledge. #UCFLAE4314F17

Teresaj ESOL 17. Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions. Here is a link to a to the movie trailer for this book! https://youtu.be/Ct51eHNsii4 7y
Jaquessial I've been wanting to read these books but they're so expensive.😂😂 7y
DrSpalding This hybrid picture book/novel is a wonderful example of HF. ESOL 17 is spot on and the movie is excellent having 15 Academy Awards. Check it out! 7y

Mehso-so

Howling Hurricanes by Louise Spilsbury is a great NF book to do SR with! This book gives all types of facts and pictures about hurricanes and how they are formed. UDL 2.1 Clarify vocabulary and symbols, ESOL 20. List the most important words and phrases you use or plan to use in a presentation on the chalkboard. #UCFLAE4314F17

Teresaj https://books.google.com/books?id=6mFCDQAAQBAJ&pg=PR18&lpg=PR18&dq=howling+hurri... is a good resource for ideas of how to introduce and utilize this with students. 7y
Juliemorell Wow this seems like a book kids would be interested in, especially as students in Florida. This would be a fun one to read during hurricane season, and it would educate kids about what hurricanes are/how they happen. Thanks for sharing! 7y
DrSpalding I too think this would be an interesting book for our students living in Florida and through hurricanes. There are many titles related to this topic. One of my favorites is by Gail Gibbons. Believe it or not this is not only a science topic but also, there are social studies standards that could be met utilizing this text. 7y
