An Unmarked Grave
An Unmarked Grave: A Bess Crawford Mystery | Charles Todd
8 posts | 7 read | 7 to read
A wonderful new mystery series that will let us see the horrors of World War I through the eyes of Bess Crawford, battlefield nurse. Margaret Maron Readers who cant get enough of Jacqueline Winspears novels, or Hester Latterly, who saw action in the Crimean War in a series of novels by Anne Perry, are bound to be caught up in the adventures of Bess Crawford. New York Times Book Review The critically acclaimed, New York Times bestselling author of the Ian Rutledge mystery series, Charles Todd once again spotlights World War I nurse Bess Crawford in An Unmarked Grave. Gripping, powerful, and evocative, this superb mystery masterwork unfolds during the deadly Spanish Influenza pandemic of 1918, as Bess discovers the body of a murdered British officer among the many dead and sets out to unmask a craven killer.

Well, considering that l'm usually terrible with challenges, l'm quite happy with my progress with #Booked2020. It is already a lot better than last year.

The Doom List for #SetInHollywood was a great read. Strong noir feeling, great characters, an intriguing mystery.

An Un marked Grave for #LiveAndLearn about the 1918 Influenza Pandemic. This is a subject that is increasingly intriguing me.
A couple of chapters in and it already sounds great.

New Year's Resolution - be better about posting what I'm reading here! I read many books last year, that I didn't post about.

First book of 2020 = Bess Crawford. So glad I found her! 👩🏻‍⚕️🕵️‍♀️💉💀

robinb I enjoy this series as well! I need to figure out where I stopped and pick it back up again. 5y

Friday is definitely not too late for some #WondrousWednesday action, right?!
-May 2019
-It was on my radar because of LibraryThing, which I ironically don't use but am on their email list. Once it was something I could access via desktop & not just an app (I don't really like apps), I was eager to give it a try.
-About the same, but the community aspect is AMAZING
-I read about anything that leaves me feeling happy/satisfied inside

Thanks @Eggs

Eggs It is never too late to celebrate a wondrous Wednesday!! 💕📚👏🏻🤗 5y

It's 1918 and Spanish Flu has hit. But suddenly there's an additional body that's not due to the flu or the Front. The most exciting of the Bess Crawford mysteries so far sees Bess hunting a murderer who this time is after her. The same atmospheric writing as the earlier books in the series brings the Front to life. An excellent installment in the series.

Spanish flu rips through the ranks and catches Bess in it's wake. A suicide that may not be all that it seems. A murder that may or may not have happened. A family friend in mortal peril. A suspect who's a bit too elusive.

There were some loose ends to the mystery in this book but if you don't look too closely it's still a good read.

Another good effort for this series. One thing that‘s beginning to bug me a little is that every man Bess meets seems to fall in love with her. 😳🙄😄 Yes, I know that she‘s a nurse in war time, but really?! I‘m actually rooting for her life-long friend Simon, but not sure that they will move forward to something or just remain friends.

Can‘t wait to dive in to this next one....more adventures for Bess. ❤️

Andrew65 You're ploughing through them! 7y
robinb @Andrew65 🤣🤣🤣 I warned you with the first one...it‘s my obsessive compulsion to finish a series once I start. I simply can‘t stop! 😳😳🤦🏻‍♀️ I need help. 7y
Andrew65 @robinb 😂Nothing wrong with that if you are enjoying them. 😊 7y

robinb @Andrew65 thanks, but I know I‘ll drive everyone on Litsy nuts with my crazy posts....one after the other. Maybe I‘ll TRY (no promises) to sneak in something different to break it up a bit. Either that or my library won‘t have the next one which will bring it to a screeching halt because I don‘t need to be buying books at the moment. 😜👀 7y
Andrew65 @robinb I can sometimes be the other way, if I find a new favourite series or author I want to spread the books out so that I always have more to savour and look forward to. Although I have read 7 of the excellent Maisie Dobbs Series by Jacqueline Winspear over the past year. (edited) 7y
robinb @Andrew65 I actually wish I was more that way because after I hurry through them sometimes it‘s awhile before a new one comes out, and by then I‘ve already forgotten what happened in the previous one. 😔🤦🏻‍♀️ And I‘m DEFINITELY getting to Maisie, sooner rather than later. 😉 7y
Andrew65 @robinb I think you will love Maisie. 7y
