Day 1 of the #Scarathlon Photo Challange - “Black“ #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall
This introduction to the dark arts provides an overview of many things that I'm interested in, from fiction and general curiosity -- such as numerology, astrology, and ritual magic.
It helped me connect these systems through common themes. In addition to this book, Cavendish has a 24-volume encyclopedia of the supernatural. He has certainly put in the research of these fascinating practices.
Saturday night activities with my familiar 🙂
I‘ve had this book for ages and read a few parts of it. Think this is a good time to get it finished!
Yesterday I saw my grandma who's been cleaning up around her place. She gave me a huge bag of books she thought I'd enjoy. 📚 I love my witchy family ❤🧙♀️ @Jemmygem
I was going to put the dust jacket back on the book to take a nice picture. But then Ian decided it was the best toy ever… so you get this 😂
I enjoyed this book. The author is very skeptical of magic, so it‘s full of snark (sometimes subtle), but an interesting overview and history (until the ‘60s) of various magical arts. It was, however, a bit dry, and took me about 9 months on and off to finish!
In magic as in poetry, the effect a word creates is produced by the combination of its sound and its meaning, and the two things cannot really be disentangled from each other.
