Deaf since early childhood, Caleb Zelic is used to meeting life head-on. Now, hes struggling just to get through the day. His best mate is dead, his ex-wife, Kat, is avoiding him, and nightmares haunt his waking hours.
But when a young woman is killed, after pleading for his help in sign language, Caleb is determined to find out who she was. The trail leads Caleb back to his hometown, Resurrection Bay. The town is on bushfire alert, and simmering with racial tensions. As Caleb delves deeper, he uncovers secrets that could ruin any chance of reuniting with Kat, and even threaten his life. Driven by his own demons, he pushes on. But who is he willing to sacrifice along the way?

This is a great series, #SetinAustralia . The main character is deaf, and he runs a private detective business. It has some incredibly sad side plots, and you really do need to read the first book to get the most out of this one. I can‘t wait to read the third one.#Booked2021

In which Caleb Zelic is sucked back into the aftermath of a murder. Emma Viskic captures the tension, claustrophobia and bigotry of a small Australian town in bushfire season very well.

Bookzombie This sounds good. I‘m going to have to look up the first book. 4y
Bookzombie Turns out I already have the first one stacked. Lol. 4y
Lauredhel @Bookzombie lol, enjoy! I must say I'm liking reading an Australia genre book that actually includes disabled and Aboriginal folks in a realistic and non token sort of way. 4y

Spent the holiday reading and visiting Australia. I liked this book even if Caleb hasn‘t grown and learned from the events of Resurrection Bay. I do like how Caleb jumps (or gets sucked) in to help the woman who comes to him for help. His persistence is impressive as is his dedication to helping and protecting those he loves. Looking forward to the next one.

I absolutely loved 85% but that other 15% brings it down from a 4.5⭐️ read to a 3.5⭐️ I loved the setting, the atmosphere of a small coastal town in bushfire season along with the racial tension between the Koori population & some of the white residents, after the trashing of Koori owned shops & burning to the ground of Caleb‘s MILs Medical Centre which is handled really well. My issues were with Caleb‘s stupidity & the highly unsatisfying ending.

RadicalReader @Lizpixie I absolutely am utterly amazed and adored by this truest terrifically created book cover I am also equally amazed at how many books I just have to read the content for on the inside flaps because the cover was so consuming 5y
Freespirit I liked her first book Resurrection Bay. Have this one on the TBR list. 5y

Currently halfway through the 2nd to Viskic‘s debut novel, Resurrection Bay. A Caleb Zelic story, it picks up after the events in the 1st book. Caleb is struggling to deal with the flashbacks of his & Kats ordeal, taking to running through the streets of Melbourne instead of sleep. When a desperate woman tries to get his help but is chased in front of a truck & killed in front of him, he‘s dragged into a mess that takes him back to his hometown.

JennyM I loved the first one. Looking forward to your review, Liz 😊 5y

I‘m a tad late with my November stats - Work is a little exhausting at the moment. I‘ve been lucky enough to read another bunch of awesome books. However I can‘t rave enough about Emma Viskic‘s work. She‘s awesome!

My total for the year is sitting at 211 and I‘m no longer sure 250 is achievable. #nextyearsgoals

Cinfhen 211 is outstanding 🎉🎉🎉🙌🏻 6y
Izai.Amorim Stop sleeping? 😂😂😂Seriously, you‘re the most prolific reader around here, I guess. Less than 2 days for a book! 👍👍👍 6y
