This TL book, originally written by Beatrix Potter, would be a great RA for grades K-2. This is a cautionary tale about the importance of following directions. Peter Rabbit disobeys his mother by going to Mr. McGregor‘s garden and feasting on his veggies. When he‘s caught, he is chased, and in the process, loses his jacket and shoes. He‘s put to bed while his more obedient siblings are rewarded with a yummy dinner. #ucflae3414sp18

AndreaG I would use this story in the classroom to discuss feelings and make text-to-self connections. I would ask questions like, “How did Peter feel...” at different times during the text and ask students to think of times when they felt similarly and share, either whole group or with a partner. http://schools.nyc.gov/NR/rdonlyres/35C1809B-B30D-450E-AE7C-1F399C7CA5AF/175763/... 6y

juliette_kathleen I like the text to self connections idea for this book!! I also really like the options of whole group or partner group. It leaves room for diversity and change. Guided prompts and questions for this are so important! 6y
DrSpalding If you have not seen this movie, you must. I plan to buy it. It is excellent 6y
AndreaG @DrSpalding Thanks!! I will check it out. 6y

The Tale of Peter Rabbit: A Story Board Book is a wonderful TL based on Beatrix Potters original story and perfect for S! Little Peter Rabbit though warned by his mother goes into Mr McGregor's garden and ends up running for his life! Filled with suspense and unfortunate events, this book is perfect for capturing the attention of any class. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vYVJA_waEkM this is a very well done read aloud of the story with commentary.

JordanD I would utilize UDL strategy 3.1 to activate background knowledge on what can be found in a garden before reading and EL strategy 5 to teach any vocabulary the students may not know like "gooseberry net". #ucflae3414f17 6y
DrSpalding This is another classic story. Nice EL/UDL alignment. Check the App Store, there are some excellent apps that complement Potter's stories. 6y
JordanD @DrSpalding I remember talking about some of the apps in class- I bet they would be a wonderful addition to the lesson! 6y
AndreaC I love this book, such a classic! I think activating the background knowledge is a great idea. 6y
AlexaDP When I worked with pre-K students I would read this book to them and they always loved it! I think a lot of kids, especially the mischievous ones, can relate to peter so it keeps them interested! 6y
