3 posts | 11 read | 1 to read
For generations, children have loved the enchanting story of the twelve beautiful princesses and the handsome young lad who solves the mystery of their tattered shoes. Now Marianna Mayer brings to life all the splendor and romance of this beloved classic, from the dazzling forests Of silver, gold, and diamonds to a twilight palace where the bewitched princesses dance to hypnotic music. And award-winning artist Kinuko Craft add, her own magic: a visual feast of exquisite, jewel-like paintings that sweep across the pages. Together, Mayer and Craft have created an unforgettable world that readers of all ages will want to return to again and again.

I don't read many (or really any) children's books these days, but the #litsyatxreaderssociety February theme is fairytale retellings, and The Google led me to Genevieve Valentine's The Girls at the Kingfisher Club, a retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, a story I had never even heard of. This book isn't anything revolutionary, but it's a nice little fairytale with really lovely illustrations, and I enjoyed it. 💃

Soubhiville I want to go to that party! How pretty. 5y
Eyelit There‘s a retelling of the 12 dancing princess in this graphic novel (which itself is a slight retelling of 1001 nights) 5y
thestarlesscasea @Eyelit ooh cool, thank you! 5y

4⭐️ This book has the most beautiful illustrations. And the story is very compelling. Each night the 12 princesses dance through their dancing shoes and the kingdom wonders why. But only a lowly farm boy can find out the truth. This is one of the best versions of this story available.

Found this while clearing out my cookbook shelf. I LOVED this book when I was fetus Claire, you guys. This is still the most beautifully illustrated book I've ever read to this day. (and what a great story, ofc)

Johanna414 We had a copy of The Twelve Dancing princesses at our public library when I was little that had the most beautiful illustrations and all the princesses were of different ethnicities. I loved it so much and checked it out over and over again. My mom and I have looked but haven‘t ever been able to find a copy of it 7y
