Born in Baltimore the only child of free African American parents, Harper was a fiction writer, journalist, activist and she helped slaves escape through the Underground Railroad & wrote frequently for anti-slavery newspapers, earning her a reputation as the mother of African American journalism.
Mrs Frances Ellen Watkins Harper you are an amazing Poet and I am so grateful to find your poetry on audio, so far my favourite is Double Standard and oh so true it is.
