Sharpie Art Workshop
Sharpie Art Workshop: Techniques and Ideas for Transforming Your World | Timothy Goodman
2 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
Bold and sharp, brilliant and vivid, Sharpie markers can be found in art, office, and stationery supply stores, drugstores, mass-market and crafts chains - almost anywhere writing utensils are sold. Sharpies can be used on virtually any surface, from the traditional (paper and canvas) to the unexpected (fabric, plastic, ceramics, glass, wood, stone, metal). In addition to the original fine point version, Sharpies are produced in five tip widths, several formulations, and in more than 30 colors, plus silver metallic. Their familiarity, accessibility, and clean, bold, dense line - especially the graphic impact that can be achieved with classic black - have made Sharpie markers the go-to medium for creatives of all stripes. In Sharpie Art Workshop, designer, artist, and art director Timothy Goodman explores Sharpie writing products, the materials and supplies that can be used to enhance or modify them, and the range of creative techniques and effects that can be achieved. Through a series of examples and exercises, Goodman demonstrates how to make different kinds of marks, patterns, and images on a variety of surfaces. Inspiring works by noted artists from all over the world who use Sharpie in interesting and innovative ways are also included. Sharpie Art Workshop offers ideas and inspiration to anyone who's looking to explore the creative potential of this exciting medium. So when you make your mark, what will you create?

So I'm kind of hoping this isn't actually a #uniquefacts thing because then I can tell my daughter I'm not that weird, but I have a serious obsession with Sharpies. This is just a sampling of my current collection; the ones I've made available in the school supply (another obsession) corner of our keeping room. So maybe I have a few. What of it?? 😠😬😳

Melkyl That's funny! I also obsessively buy Sharpies. I have all colors and the different tips. My students love to use them because I have all the best colors 😊 8y
Gayan I love Sharpies! ❤️ 8y
ImaginativeMom @Melwilk Right?!? And the clickable highlighters! Seriously, how do you not buy those when they go on sale?? And the metallics! So many uses.... 👍🏼👊🏼👏🏼 8y

ImaginativeMom @Gayan Sharpies solidarity! 😎👍🏼👊🏼 8y
LauraBeth Wait - are we not supposed to be obsessed with sharpies? Because I've been eyeing the 80s glam pack... 8y
Chessa We also have a ton, all colors! 8y
ImaginativeMom @LauraBeth Rock on like Madonna, my friend! Everyone needs the Glam pack!! 😎🤘🏼💅🏼 8y
ImaginativeMom @Chessa With a mohawk and tattoos, I'm usually proud of individuality. Right now, I'm grooving on being part of the crowd! 😂😂😂 8y
PatriciaU Showing my ignorance here... What is a "keeping room?" I've seen it referenced here a couple of times. 8y
subwayreads I love them too! 8y
ImaginativeMom @PatriciaU It's a particularly Southern thing: a family room, basically, built off the kitchen. By tradition, it has a fireplace. It's a smaller space for the fam to hang out, entertain, keep kids close while cooking, etc. It's a versatile space that we use as a study space a library and occasionally for entertaining. 8y
ImaginativeMom @subwayreads Whoop!! 👍🏼👊🏼👏🏼 8y
ImaginativeMom @Skiles I get it. I do. But I'm pan-Sharpie lover. ❤️😂😂 8y
PatriciaU @ImaginativeMom Ah! Like a family room! I get it! I am always learning new things here! Thanks.... 8y
LibrarianJen I have sharpie envy! 8y
ImaginativeMom @PatriciaU Yes! Though traditionally just smaller. Normally, you wouldn't fit a full size couch in one, for instance. 😄 8y
Meg11726 I have a huge sharpie addiction.. In fact so bad my mom buys them for me for Christmas every year.. I have them everywhere in my house lol 8y
ImaginativeMom @Meg11726 New Sharpies on Christmas morning? What could be better? 😍 8y
BookishFeminist 😂😂 love your unabashed sharpie and office supply collecting. No shame! Sharpies rock. 🤘🏼 8y
ImaginativeMom @BookishFeminist If I showed you my pencil hoard you might be temporarily taken aback, but I swear it's necessary! My kids lose everything. (That's my story!!) 😂😂😂 8y

What did you do as a child that created timelessness, that made you forget time?
