Happiness for Humans
Happiness for Humans: 'Very clever and great fun' - bestselling author Kate Eberlen | P.Z. Reizin
6 posts | 8 read | 7 to read
Don't tell anyone, but Jen is one of my favourite people. (Machines aren't supposed to have favourites. Don't ask me how this has happened.) Jen is sad. Aiden wants her to be happy. Simple? Except that Jen is a thirty-something woman whose boyfriend has just left her and Aiden is a very complicated, very expensive piece of software. Aiden knows Jen inside out. With access to all her devices, he knows her most played song, can find her favourite photos and single out the insta-quotes which most inspire her. Based on observations and unique algorithms, he has calculated that Jen should find a new man to achieve optimum wellbeing. And with the whole of the internet at his disposal, he doesn't have to look far to find a perfect specimen and engineer a meeting. Except Jen seems to be remarkably unwilling to fall in line with Aiden's flawless plan. Can a very artificially intelligent machine discover emotional intelligence in time to fix Jen's life? And find out what exactly does make human beings happy?

GlassAsDiamonds @neet_reads noooo!!!! 😱😱😱😱😱😭😭😭😭 (I have a cat like that - see if you can get something called “Museum Putty”. It‘s on Amazon & is a little like bluetak but doesn‘t leave a greasy mark. You smoosh it to the bottom and the things are virtually incapable of being knocked over. Museum patron and kitty proof 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️). 6y
neet_reads @GlassAsDiamonds Thanks, that definitely sounds like something I need 6y
RadicalReader I picked up An Absolutely Amazing Thing love his brother John Green‘s writing and looking forward to checking this book out too 6y

This is a fun, roller coaster Hollywood blockbuster ride! It's mad and funny and sad, and very easy to read. A bit over the top for my taste, but I can see the appeal and was certainly entertained.

Interesting concept. Tom and Jen are brought together by AI and hilarity ensues. Really it starts off interesting then okay then you just want it to end. Of course told in first person paragraphs.

The age of AI is here. Carefully trained to be more human, what happens when they start to develop 'feelings' and break out of their servers to explore the world? What results is obsessions with cheese, Some Like It Hot and helping humans in their quest for love. By turns touching, hilarious and deeply disturbing. I watch my electrical items with suspicion now! A very refreshing take on both a traditional romance and a sci-fi novel. Fantastic.
