November
November: A Novel | Jorge Galan
6 posts | 1 read
1989. Salvadorian society is immersed in the horror of civil war. On a fateful November dawn, a group of armed men entered the Universidad Catlica and murder six Jesuits priests and two women in cold blood. Survivor of the massacre Father Tojeira is forced to take the reins of control in the sinister days following the attack, desperate to uncover the truth behind the terrible slaughter. Inspired by the real-life tragic events that shook El Salvador and Latin America, November is a moving and unsettling novel about fear, hate and impunity. It is the first book to cast some light on the crime that was never solved and an attempt to speak out, as the murdered Jesuits attempted to do, in the defence of the disadvantaged.

For November, my plan is to finish up my #NewYearWhoDis picks. I got a bit behind and I want to make sure that I get to them before Christmas reading season. These are just my priorities, but I'll most certainly read more. Hopefully getting in some nonfiction for #NonfictionNovember too.

melissajayne The Pull of Stars and The Rose Code are both excellent. 1y

This was a proper slog. Positioned as a novel but read basically as a series of conversations between the author and prominent figures from San Salvador. I don‘t know if it was due to the translation, but it just felt like it didn‘t know if it was trying to be a novel, it a non fiction account. A shame, as it was about events I have little to no knowledge of, so could have been very interesting!

bekakins In good news though, I am counting this as an Impulse read in #WinterGames 😁😁😁 3y
bekakins #MerryReaders +16 points (i think!) 😬 still getting my head around this! 3y
