Looking for book recommendations for my 12 year old son...

He loves fantasy books and his favorite series are Ranger's Apprentice, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Beyonders, and Five Kingdoms. He also enjoyed The Hunger Games and Divergent.

We're both kinda lost on what series or stand alone books he could explore next (I was more the Little House on the Prairie and Anne of Green Gables lover in middle school).

Thanks in advance!

suzisteffen If he enjoyed The Hunger Games, I wonder if he might want to check out the author‘s Gregor the Overlander series. I know it‘s middle-grade, but its really quite good. Also, I think starting him off on Diana Wynne Jones‘ books, perhaps the Dark Lord of Derkhelm, might be wonderful. And Diane Duane‘s So You Want to Be a Wizard series is superb: 6y
suzisteffen @TabbyGibby oops, didn‘t mean to end, or end with a colon, but thumbs! OK, a few more: Tarehreh Mafi‘s Shatter Me series; Malinda Lo‘s Adaptation & Inheritance; Kristin Cashore‘s Graceling/Fire/Bitterblue trilogy. 6y
Purpleness Have you tried any of Brandon Sanderson‘s books? 6y

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage How about James Dashner's Maze Runner and Eye of Minds series? 6y
pepsicola He should read The Fault In Our Stars. Don't worry,it is child friendly. 6y
kezzlou85 How about Eragon by Christopher Paolini. 6y
LA_Mead My husband loved the Redwall series when he was around that age... (I did too). 6y
Gezemice I second Eragon and its sequels. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer is excellent. He might also like Ender‘s Game and the Ender‘s Shadow series, although it is sci-fi. And try him on Terry Pratchett! Discworld is meant for asults but kid-friendly, and he wrote YA as well. The Wee Free Men is the first one of his Tiffany Aching series. The Bromeliad trilogy, starting with Diggers, is also an excellent, and fun. 6y
LiteraryinPA It‘s not fantasy, but it‘s an awesome middle grade series: the track series by Jason Reynolds. The books are Ghost, Patina, Sunny, and Lu. Reynolds is great for preteens, teens, and adults! 6y
Michollio 100 Cupboards series by N.D. Wilson 6y

Had a huge shelf of books to give away to the hundreds of trick-or-treaters that come to my parents‘ house every year. (Don‘t worry, it was enforced to the ceiling so it didn‘t crush anybody!)
