The first in a stunning new series from the author of The Silence of the Sea, winner of the 2015 Petrona Award for best Scandinavian Crime Novel. The Legacy is the first installment in a fantastic new series featuring the psychologist Freyja and the police officer Huldar. The only person who might have the answers to a baffling murder case is the victim's seven-year-old daughter, found hiding in the room where her mother died. And she's not talking. Newly-promoted, out of his depth, detective Huldar turns to Freyja for her expertise with traumatized young people. Freyja, who distrusts the police in general and Huldar in particular, isn't best pleased. But she's determined to keep little Margret safe. It may prove tricky. The killer is leaving them strange clues, but can they crack the code? And if they do, will they be next?

My final #BookSpin read for September! It was captivating. A new series for me—very dark ScandiNoir, with an unusual lead detective. Huldar is so unlike the alpha male types we usually have to deal with. I did not see the ending coming either. AT ALL. And there were plenty of clues, especially reviewing it in hindsight.

My deck flowers are still going strong! Pic taken on the first day of October; it was a gorgeous one here in Michigan.

TheAromaofBooks Yay!!! I am loving your deck!! 3y

A detective heading up his first investigation must work with the director of Children‘s House, who already has reasons to dislike him, when the only witness to a heinous murder is a young girl. A second murder occurs resembling the first and raising the stakes. This was a really solid thriller. I didn‘t love the way the big reveal at the end was written but I am difficult to please and hate it when the villain just offers to tie up all loose ends.

I was looking for some Scandinavian Noir and chose this very dark mystery/thriller. Not my usual genre as I always hate the cheesiness of the grand reveal at the end, but this writer is very good. Read if you're looking for something a bit disturbing.

Nicely paced Icelandic crime novel by the queen of "Nordic noir", with the suspense around the investigation maintained up to the very last pages

Solid scandicrime. A child psychologist and a detective team up to solve bizarre, bloodless murders and untangle two generations of family secrets in Iceland.

Great beach read! I picked up this thriller at the Bay Area Book Festival and might never have otherwise come across “the queen of Icelandic noir”, author Yrsa Sigurdardottir. It‘s a well paced page turner, and I enjoyed the author‘s style though the translation was a bit clumsy in spots. 4/5

A new series by Yrsa! There were a few passages that I had a hard time reading. Other than that, I enjoyed this thriller. I liked Freya and Huldar and I hope to see them again soon. Finished this while on vacation today with this lovely view.

neet_reads Good to hear you liked it. I was going to read it a little while ago, but didn‘t know if I wanted to read about children in a bad situation. Maybe I‘ll pick it up now 6y

Solid Icelandic crime novel and first in a new series. They like their thrillers dark and creepy in the north. I enjoyed this one overall, although at times it felt like it dragged a little more than it needed too. I didn't figure out the ending until close to the end and there were components of the ending that I didn't see but made perfect sense. I will definitely pick up the next one. #mounttbrreadathon

I liked this Scandinavian mystery set in Iceland! Brutal murders (trigger warning), detective, child psychologist, and the young daughter who was under the bed during the murder. Throw in a coded puzzle and secrets from the past! First in a series! Out in Feb. Thanks to NetGalley.😍

Mehso-so

Yrsa Sigurdardottir's latest crime thriller (translated into English by Victoria Cribb and the first in a new series) is a flat affair with two leads who lack chemistry and a psycho-of-the-week antagonist whose reasons stretched credibility and which relies on key information not being conveyed until the end.
