so-soI'd rate the majority of the book ok, though there were some parts where I got a bit more interested and would up the rating to “good”. Overall, though, I‘m leaving it at ok. I do think the second half picked up a bit more over the first half.

pickA strong ending to a strong series. The horrifying parts were balanced out with bits of humor and hope. I can‘t wait to return to Tortall again.
Only 250 pages left of this quartet! This book has been really good so far (big surprise) and I‘m hoping to have it finished up tomorrow.

Okay, sorry this is a 2-for-1, but it was too good to pass up! I love that, in this series, Pierce makes such an effort to make Kel's romances stay in the background and keep Kel and her journey into knighthood the main focus of her story. And she resists the urge to marry Kel off by the end of the series! She lets her be young and live her life!

In some ways, this book is a product of its time (the immediate aftermath of 9/11), but it is incredibly relevant today. Much of the action is about helping refugees. Even though the refugees and main characters are the same nationality, Kel treats the work that many others look down on as important because the refugees matter. She's the hero we need.
