Falling in Love | Donna Leon
6 posts | 6 read | 5 to read
In Death at La Fenice, Donna Leone(tm)s first novel in the Commissario Brunetti series, readers were introduced to the glamorous and cut-throat world of opera and to one of Italye(tm)s finest living sopranos, Flavia Petrelli e" then a suspect in the poisoning of a renowned German conductor. Now, many years after Brunetti cleared her name, Flavia has returned to the illustrious La Fenice to sing the lead in Tosca. As an opera superstar, Flavia is well acquainted with attention from adoring fans and aspiring singers. But when one anonymous admirer inundates her with bouquets of yellow roses e" on stage, in her dressing room and even inside her locked apartment e" it becomes clear that this fan has become a potentially dangerous stalker. Distraught, Flavia turns to an old friend for help. Familiar with Flaviae(tm)s melodramatic temperament, Commissario Brunetti is at first unperturbed by her story, but when another young opera singer is attacked he begins to think Flaviae(tm)s fears may be justified. In order to keep his friend out of danger, Brunetti must enter the psyche of an obsessive fan and find the culprit before anyone comes to harm.

Flavia Petrelli, world renowned opera singer, has come to Venice to sing the lead in Tosca. Brunetti knows her from the past(Acqua Alta) & he & his wife Paola go to one of her performances.During thunderous applause, dozens & dozens of yellow rose flood the stage& fill up her dressing room. Flavia is frightened-who is behind this extravaganza? What does it mean? #serieove2025

Yay! We have SUN! I am having coffee on my porch while I wait for the Village‘s Memorial Day Parade to go by. Surrounded by a canopy of bird song: American Goldfinch, Mocking bird, House Wren, Gray Catbird, Northern Cardinal,Red -winged Blackbird, Robin, Mourning Dove, Eastern Towee to name of few (Merlin Bird ID). Other than the birds, it‘s quiet. #porchlife #serieslove2025

Thoroughly enjoyed this light but erudite read: a little trip to Venice! With a taste of Tosca, stalking, Brunetti's dry humour, delicious lunches and the state of Italy today.

DivineDiana You sold me! 9y
Nance I just finished this book. An engaging read. I particularly enjoy the contrast between the scenes at Brunetti's home and those in the field. The ending provided quite a twist! 8y
