Mixed feelings with this short story? Novella? This is about Scott who is losing weight without “getting thinner”. Then there are some situations with people in the community where you see prejudices, discrimination. At some point, I was lost because Mr. King is talking about other irrelevant things, at least for me. But again, the story takes another emphasis, Scott condition, the race and that end...beautiful and sad😔⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) I still liked because this is another character driven story and I love this type of stories and Mr. King is an expert on that. For me was a science fiction story not horror. 3.5/4⭐️

Copyright 1989 by Running Press, this is the tiniest version in my collection! Just 2-3 inches tall, it includes the whole poem in a hardback with a dust jacket! The font and greenery on the text pages is very pretty.

#BookSpin #BookSpinBingo

Type A Alert! I developed some personal rules for my 2024 Bingo cards that make the game work better for my life.

1) Even though I am doing the Bingo card, I will always make the #BookSpin & #DoubleSpin selections a priority.
2) Whatever number is selected for the #BookSpin will be automatically replaced by my book club's monthly selection. The title that was listed under that number will be moved to the #25 spot. ⬇️

theokiereader 3) If I have a book to review for NetGalley, I can place that book in any spot. The title that currently occupies that spot will be moved to #24. If I do not have a book to review for NetGalley, #24 becomes a free space that cannot be moved.

4) I made the #25 spot into a mood read. I can place that book in any spot. The title that currently occupies that spot will be moved to #25. ⬇️

theokiereader 5) Each month will have a theme. This will probably remain “Old Book of the Month Selections” until I‘ve met the first goal of the BOTM Reading Challenge.

6) I will list my oldest, unread BOTMs first, but I will allow myself three newer BOTM selections that I am excited about.

Once I stop staring at this gorgeous cover, I‘m going to start reading this one! Just…need…to…look…away…

DGRachel I was all set to buy it knowing nothing about it purely by the cover and then I read the description. 🤩🤩 5mo
TracyReadsBooks @DGRachel This is definitely a book I would buy just for the cover! And agree 💯, the description makes it impossible to resist! 5mo
DGRachel My library has it on order and I‘m now #24 on 6 copies. 😂😂 5mo

#24 in the Rewind or Die series. Out in the backwaters of the South there is a prophet named Darius of the Zabian religion. The one saying we are all aliens who need to return to our home water planet. And you can ascend there if you have suffered enough and of course, given all your money. This was mean and sinister and lacked all the fun the others in the series have. I still liked it. It‘s well written and punishing. Pick!

Book #24 of the year: “The Druids” by Stuart Piggott

I was looking for a straightforward and fact-based look at the history of the Druids and Celtic culture in general. This was definitely it. Piggott looks carefully at oral tradition, primary sources from Romans, funereal customs, architecture, and early Christian writings to present a realistic picture of how little we actually know. Very dry so only read if you‘re a nerd 😂

Book #24
4/5
I grew up with a grandmother who was 100% loyal to the British monarchy, as her grandparents were from Great Britain. I remember many decorative plates, teacups, and other memorabilia with photos of the royals. I can remember looking through books and magazines about the royal family.. My grandmother even brought me a book about Diana and Charles' wedding, with pop-ups and tabs....

Kris10H My mother has a beautiful photograph of Princess Diana that she took during a royal tour that included a stop in Shelburne, Nova Scotia. I still remember where I was when I learned of her death, and it almost felt like losing a part of the family.

Kris10H Other than that, I have never been invested much in the royal family. To put it into perspective... I didn't watch the weddings of William/Kate, or Harry/Meghan - though the media covered and replayed enough of it on news programs and on social media, that I feel as though I did.

Kris10H I don't know what made me want to read Spare, except for maybe curiosity about a royal who has, seemingly successfully, broken free. Harry comes across as very self-aware and insightful. The death of his mother in 1997 was very clearly a defining moment in his life, and he continued, for many years after, to hold out hope that she might just be in hiding, and that she would someday come back. 9mo
Kris10H It's really quite heartbreaking. Diana is very present in the autobiography, being what ties everything together. It really makes complete sense that he would end up taking the woman he loves, and leaving the UK. I think it was inevitable. The bits about the war were of no interest to me, other than to note that Harry is extremely serious about, and dedicated to, serving his country. 9mo
Kris10H It's worth a read. I would definitely recommend listening to the audiobook (available online from your local library 😉) 9mo
