Letter to my Father
Letter to my Father | Franz Kafka, Howard Colyer
5 posts | 19 read | 3 to read
This letter is the closest that Kafka came to setting down his autobiography. He was driven to write it by his father's opposition to his engagement with Julie Wohryzek. The marriage did not take place; the letter was not delivered.

Carta al padre | Franz Kafka
Pickpick

Unfortunately this letter was never handed to its recipient. The letter is hard to stomach and depicts young Kafkas hardship in finding acceptance or even recognition of his mere existence from the very person that gave life to him. #kafka #letter #father #artist #fatherson #family #familiaffairs #author #writer #toxicfamily #toxicparents #genius

Hence that old proverb is only very remotely applicable: that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. My hand is empty, the bush is full and yet- as dictated by the conditions of battle and the exigencies of life- I must choose emptiness.

Back on Litsy after a long sabbatical. I've read some amazing books along the way. My current read would be this. Poignant and raw, from who else but Kafka?
