So Much Blue: A Novel | Percival Everett

Pickpick

This is a triple (& sometimes more) timeline book, or perhaps more accurately, a three places book: “house” in Philadelphia where Kevin‘s wife and kids live, Paris where he had an affair, and El Salvador (right before its civil war in 1979) where he goes with his best friend Richard to find his friend‘s brother who went missing there. The House chapters jump around in time as Kevin tells us about events in his family‘s life. The storyline ⬇️

Texreader in El Salvador is ugly, brutal, profane, and scary. The events there affected him so deeply that it seems even he didn‘t realize the impact it had on the rest of his life. Kevin is an artist, telling his stories in slight part in the colors he paints. He‘s sometimes not the brightest father or husband making questionable decisions. The 1979 chapters keep the story moving in a dramatic fashion, and almost impossible to put down. #authoramonth 2d

May 2025 #AuthorAMonth #Read2025 For the first few minutes I wasn‘t sure if I liked this book, but I quickly turned around into loving it. It is the story of a young man‘s life and how as a middle aged man he comes to understand why he became the person his and finally comes to peace with his past and himself. It also is a story of love, family, friendship, and art. There is a subtle allusion to his race while he was in graduate school (cont)⬇️

CatLass007 while sharing a house with his white best friend in a Black neighborhood in Philadelphia. On a return flight from El Salvador 1979 he is profiled by Customs, a nerve-wracking experience for him and for me as a reader. As a white woman I have never been a victim of racial discrimination but the book is enlightening in that respect. Recommended! 2w

Reggie Oh man, I cried when he met that man again from El Salvador later in life. 2w

@Soubhiville I hope you are well. I just wanted to let you and the rest of the #AuthorAMonth gang know that the tagged book, So Much Blue, and The Trees, both by May‘s author Percival Everett, are free on Audible. I‘d love to read James but it‘s not free and the hold list is months long. I‘ll get to it when the LIBBY gods smile on me.

3 Stars • Christina Lauren‘s The Paradise Problem is a sparkling rom-com blending wit and warmth. Anna Green, a struggling artist, and Liam Weston, a reserved professor, fake a marriage at a lavish island wedding to secure his $100 million inheritance. ⬇️

suvata Their opposites-attract dynamic ignites with sharp banter and steamy chemistry amid family drama. Though the resolution feels slightly rushed, the brisk pacing and vivid characters shine. A delightful, sophisticated spin on fake romance for fans of the trope. 4w

It‘s spring! My daffodils have finally bloomed. 🥰

This book was a fun, quick read. I‘m glad they only used the “word” “lol” once in the book. It also had THE LONGEST epilogue! Other than that, the story was pretty good. I think this is only my second Christina Lauren book.

I rarely read rom-com books but this came up on Libby audio, many laugh out loud moments, a good plot and I liked the different pov from Anna and Liam , good ending oh and you can‘t have a good rom-com without some 🌶️😉

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Definitely my favorite from Christina Lauren that I‘ve read. It was fake dating without the drawn out “but is it real?!” And it gave such a fun wealthy island fantasy, while reminding you what is so icky about extreme wealth.
I thought both characters were well realized & while the beginning of the romance is so (so) quick, it turns out I really love a lengthy epilogue.
So well done. I‘m sure I‘ll read it again.

#DynamicDs Day 5: #Dots is all about Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama who – prior to being the visionary, hip, funky artist that she is now known to be – was a quiet country girl who spent her days dreaming beyond what she can see. My review of this fascinating picturebook biography here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-kqN
