The Dust of 100 Dogs
The Dust of 100 Dogs | A.S. King
16 posts | 22 read | 30 to read
A Spring 2009 Children's Indie Next List Pick for Teens! In the late seventeenth century, famed teenage pirate Emer Morrisey was on the cusp of escaping the pirate life with her one true love and unfathomable riches when she was slain and cursed with "the dust of one hundred dogs," dooming her to one hundred lives as a dog before returning to a human body-with her memories intact. Now she's a contemporary American teenager and all she needs is a shovel and a ride to Jamaica. Exciting, fascinating, spellbinding. I'd follow Saffron into the briny deep.Heather Brewer, author of The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod A non-traditional pirate tale with a dangerously raw, mystical edge and a unique modern twist. Deliciously fresh and starkly unforgettable. Lisa McMann, New York Times best-selling author of Wake Sparkling, original, both swashbuckling and contemporary...This gripping adventure is sure to be devoured by both teens and adults. Lauren Baratz-Logsted, author of Angel's Choice AUTHOR INTERVIEW INSIDE THE BOOK!

A book on the “Pirate 🏴‍☠️ TBR” about a cursed girl, magically forced to live life as 100 dogs before turning back into a person, only then can she retrieve her treasure!

Mdargusch What an interesting storyline- pirates and teens and fantasy. 6y
emilyhaldi Wowza!!!😱 6y
Reviewsbylola That sounds horrible—to live as a dog. 😬 6y
CrowCAH @Mdargusch @emilyhaldi @Reviewsbylola I agree such an interesting storyline. 6y

A good snowy evening to finish a book. Unfortunately I didn‘t really like this one. I never really connected with any of the characters. I think the good and the evil characters were portrayed in a way that was just a little too simplistic to really engage. The historical parts in Ireland were probably what kept me reading, but the rest didn‘t quite live up to those scenes. Maybe it was just a little too Y for my A? 🤔

If you like pirates, time travel, or dogs I'd recommend this book. I don't have 100 dogs, but I couldn't get all 3 of mine in the picture so here's one. #dogdays #anditsaugust

As this photo accurately demonstrates my fascination with pirates, which explains why I really enjoyed The Dust Of 100 Dogs and hopefully I'll get a chance to reread it over summer.

I really liked this book, but it's not my favorite AS King. But extra points for Girl pirate protagonists!!

Pirate stories aren't usually my jam, but come on: the main character was cursed to live the lives of 100 dogs before being reincarnated into a modern-day teenage girl, hellbent on finding her long-buried treasure 300 years later. I haven't made it very far into it yet because I have to keep putting it aside for other things with deadlines - sometimes it seems like buying a book just guarantees I'll never actually get to read it! #funfridayphoto

Since I can't get my hands on an ARC of Still Life with Tornado, I'm taking a detour into King's fabulous backlist today!

So good and weird and different than anything I've read. There are so many different stories going on in this book and I loved it all. I love A.S. King!!

Imagining a pirate reincarnated into the mind/body of a teenage girl is, frankly, terrifyingly hilarious.

Well, cool. Looks like my used internet-purchased copy was signed by the author.

BookishFeminist Love when that happens! I purchased Edinburgh by Alexander Chee to have it signed by him, and when it came it was already signed. 😱 8y

I was cleaning my shelves out when I found this beauty last night, I absolutely loved this book! I am a huge pirate fan. This book has a lot of adventure and is a standalone. Want something fun and quick that doesn't have a lot attached to it? This ones for you!

OSChamberlain I've yet to read any of her work but i had the pleasure of meeting her last year. She came to speak in my English class at FIU. Awesome writer with really strange ideas. Can't wait to read something of hers 9y
ReadingVampire @OSChamberlain I would have loved to meet her! I live in Miami too, I hope FIU gets more authors visiting, I'm going there next year. 9y
OSChamberlain I'm sure they will! The English program does author events all the time. I'm kinda sad to be graduating in December :/ 9y

The first AS King book I ever read and the book that got me into blogging. It has everything: pirates, curses, plague, romance, and revenge. And dogs!
