Mehso-so

This is billed as a murder mystery, but the author is clearly more interested in nostalgia, music and romance.

Not what I was looking for or expecting. I didn't hate it, though. Infact, I enjoyed the reading experience. There were a lot of moments that made me smile, BUT there were more that made me grit my teeth or roll my eyes. The book does its fair share of pandering, and hating on marriage, but for a debut -- not bad.

wanderinglynn Yes! I miss mixed tapes. 6y
ShyBookOwl @wanderinglynn a shared Spotify playlist just isn't the same, is it? No shade to Spotify, I love it lol 6y
Melissa_J @wanderinglynn me too. There was just something about them that can‘t be replicated with today‘s technology. 6y
ShyBookOwl @Melissa_J something to do with how tangible they were, and their sound quality can't be replicated either! 6y
wanderinglynn @Melissa_J @ShyBookOwl Agree. Spotify is great, but holding a mixed tape, knowing that someone spent hours getting the songs just right. There‘s nothing like it. 6y
ShyBookOwl @wanderinglynn to be fair though, I can spend hours on a spotify playlist and I share them sometimes, but I don't usually personalize them. It's a different beast, I guess. Plus, sharing via text is not like slipping it into a locker 😍 6y
wanderinglynn @ShyBookOwl so true. I‘ve created some great playlists. But nothing beats being 15 years old and finding a mix tape in your locker after English class. 😉 #90snostalgia 6y
Purrfectpages Yes! I miss making mix tapes! It was so therapeutic. 6y
ShyBookOwl @Purrfectpages I always found it stressful 😂 but I loved doing it anyways. 6y
ShyBookOwl @wanderinglynn I think it might also have something to do with space restriction. You could only pick so many songs, so u had to really make it count. A spotify playlist may never end 6y

This was a slow read for me, but I started it at the tail end of #sadsadbookfunk. I enjoyed the music theme, especially the chapter titles. If you need a fun read or a cozier mystery, this is a good bet. It made a long flight go by more quickly.

Light and easy...a little mystery, a little romance. Will be a great beach read this summer!

LitHousewife I'm now on "What Have I Done To Deserve This?" It's hard not to look ahead, but I enjoy the surprise of the next chapter title. 9y
