Thank you for posting your reviews @AnneCecilie @monalyisha looking forward to this year‘s #newyearwhodis 😺
I completely enjoyed this new book by Toronto author Kerry Clare. Clare explores the aged question of why young women allow themselves to be exploited by older, powerful men and hold themselves to blame after the fallout.
Keep a lookout for a copy in your mailbox @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego 💌 thank you for all you do for us #poutinepenpals 🎄❤️

His wife called him “Roald the Rotten”, aptly, as these stories are as dark and twisted as any modern horror I‘ve read recently. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“The Landlady” is not to be missed! 🙊

This is the story of the abducted Nigerian school girls in 2014. Insurgents disguised as soldiers break into the school to loot it. Finding no guns or supplies, they decide that “Girls will do”.. this shock sets the tone for the terrifying story of Maryam, “bush wife”, a reward, for one of the fighters. Best read of the year! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Edna O‘Brien knows how to write about women, no matter the time, place or culture.
#womenreadingwomen
I am a #booknerd and embrace solitude and quiet. i love the artwork but am only giving this popular poetry ⭐️⭐️ I was moved by #thehurt but the remaining sections were obvious or maybe I‘m too old to appreciate her writing 🙏

1- Currently reading The Wall, themes of climate change, anti immigration and slavery. One chapter to go will add a review!
2- Podcast- Broken Harts is a 6part series about a lesbian couple who adopt 6 African American children and the ensuing tragedy.
3- Book discussion- Tan France‘s (Queer Eye) new memoir! Love talking books with @samjmitchell 💜📖
Frannie is a slave on a Jamaican plantation named “Paradise” (a horrifying place) when the book opens she‘s been arrested for murders she can‘t remember committing. If that reminds you of Margaret Atwood‘s “Alias Grace” there is no comparison!
The author narrates in perfect patois. Great in audio!

1) Mama 👩👧👧💕
2) Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls by Anissa Grey!
3) just unsubscribed from the NYT book review! 😡
4) love book cover art, but don‘t judge a book by it 😉

More short stories today! ☀️📖 the first sunny day in weeks and Tucker is saying “when is our walk time!?” 🐾
#litsywalkers #dogsoflitsy #shortstories
I love short stories! Some of the stories can be cryptic, but I enjoy a well written challenge.
“Full Service Shelter” is a must read for anyone who has worked in rescue or loves pit-bull type dogs. 💔🐾
In “Greed” a young wife spies on her husband being seduced by an older woman, a neighbour. 🍏🍏🍏
Read this book in a few hours and really liked it!

A short but powerful read to begin #womensfiction2019! Teenager Sylvie goes on a 2 week trip to Northumberland with her overbearing and strict archeologist father to reenact life as Iron Age people. Love it!
Book sale fundraiser for our local hospital 🏥 love this book, have read and listened (superb narration) The story will never get old. Love, passion, death, grief, messed up family and what it means to overcome trauma with your humanity intact. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow this was a wild ride! It started out as a “So-So” and ended as a PICK 👍 hadn‘t read a single review, so was completely taken off guard by the thrilling ending.
Is there a genre for contemporary horror? .. because this is it! I didn‘t “love” any character but thought the writing was great. POV chapters told by the cop, her daughter, the hipster journalist, a homeless man and the killer weave a gripping story I really enjoyed!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Some of my fave #irishauthors are women, but I couldn‘t leave out Sebastian Barry 🍀💚
The Little Red Chairs is set in a small Irish village where our main character falls in love with the mysterious new man in town. She is married but rushes full tilt into a sexual relationship with the man. When she discovers he is a wanted war criminal the town and her husband shame her into moving away to London. And that‘s just the start! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A completely random find at the bookstore this week; I would typically never browse the Spirituality section. Sometimes the book chooses us, not the other way round.
Cancer has changed my family‘s life and this book has been good for my soul. 📖🙏
Adding to my #TBR and welcome all comments! I really enjoyed The Changeling by Victor Lavelle so I think this would appeal to me.
🧟♀️🌳🧟♂️ #magicalrealism
#friyayintro A day late! 🤓 @howjessreads
1. Love living in an apartment. It‘s within walking distance of a bookstore, movie theatre and pub! [and no snow to shovel]
2. The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flannigan
3. Audio books during the weekday commute and all weekend!
4. Pizza!!!
I‘ve read a lot about WWII but knew nothing of the railway through the Burmese jungle built by Australian POWs. The topics are HUGE- love war death obedience honesty loyalty forgiveness. Flannigan made me see all these in a different light. It‘s a brutal but brilliant read. I loved it in audio, the narrators New Zealand accent was very compelling.

Happy birthday to John Steinbeck born this day in 1902.
🎉✏️ 🎂
East of Eden is my fave of his novels. Of Mice and Men was part of my high school curriculum and I loved that one too. Do you have a Steinbeck book that moved you?
