The Baby-Sitters Club #18: Stacey's Mistake
The Baby-Sitters Club #18: Stacey's Mistake | Ann M. Martin
4 posts | 13 read | 1 to read
The hit series is back, to inspire and charm another generation of baby-sitters! Stacey's so excited! She's invited her friends in the Baby-sitters Club to New York City for a long weekend. It's going to be perfect--a party and a sleepover on Friday, a big baby-sitting job on Saturday, and lot of sightseeing on Sunday. But what a mistake! The BSC is way out of place in the big city. Mary Anne sounds like a walking guide book, Dawn is afraid of everything, Kristy can't keep her mouth shut, and Claudia is jealous of Stacey's friends. Can Stacey be in the BSC anymore? The best friends you'll ever have--with classic BSC covers and a letter from Ann M. Martin!

Stacey's Mistake | Ann M. Martin
Pickpick

Not only did this give me BSC nostalgia, it also brought back wonderful memories of our trips to NY (where my mom lived until age 23) when I was a kid. I liked this one decently enough—could see both sides of the conflict b/t Stacey, who was being a snob, and the other girls, who reacted to NY in believable but exaggerated ways. I appreciate how Stacey comes around & that the time with the 10 kids managed to not be cringey & annoying, LOL. 3/5 ⭐️

I like that we get to see Stacey again. I think we see her again in later books too.

rather_be_reading used to love these!! 7y
sloanghost These were banned in my house! Lol 7y
BookishGirl06 @sloanghost that sucks. I don‘t get why they would be banned. 7y

sloanghost @BookishGirl06 bearing in mind that this was the 90s, one book started out with a character bragging that she has 2 of everything because her parents are divorced, which they felt portrayed divorce in a positive light (looking back now of course it's like...imagine caring that much lol). That may have been the Little Sister series but it all got tarred with the same brush. 7y
sloanghost My MUCH more appropriate first chapter book was Phantom Valley: in the Mummy's Tomb which is about a murdered ancient Egyptian princess seeking justice/vengeance from beyond the grave 😂 7y
BookishGirl06 @sloanghost dang. Divorce is so common these days now. It‘s good to show it in a positive way, showing both parents being civil with each other in front of their kids. 7y
sloanghost I completely agree--and in fact I even think my mom would agree by this point in time! Video games were also banned when I was a kid and my sister was playing halo by the time she was 7 so...y'know. 7y

What‘s so bad about a suitcase with wheels? I‘m not an old lady and I‘d much rather drag the case around then have to carry it around 😂

night_shift Nothing wrong with it! Much easier than lugging a backpack into a plane! 7y
Soubhiville If you‘re reading the original series, wheeled suitcases was a brand new invention about that time. They were considered uncool for a while, then they caught on like fire! 7y
keys_on_fire Stacy was my favorite when I was growing up. She seemed way more laid back than the others. Now when I have read them back, I like Claudia better lol 7y
xicanti I don't remember the last time I saw a suitcase that DIDN'T have wheels! Even a lot of duffle bags have them now. 7y
