Brandon Sanderson's White Sand Volume 2
Brandon Sanderson's White Sand Volume 2 | Brandon Sanderson, Rik Hoskin
5 posts | 10 read | 4 to read
Following the loss of most of his colleagues in a violent ambush, Kenton has become Lord Mastrell of the few remaining Sand Masters, magicians who can manipulate sand to do their bidding. With the ruling council poised against him, the hot-headed Kenton must become a diplomat to have any hope of preventing the eradication of his people forever. However, there's another complication: assassins are coming for him from all directions, and Kenton's only true ally is Khriss, a visitor from the other side of the planet who has an agenda of her own to pursue. White Sand Volume 2 continues the New York Times bestselling series of graphic novels, bringing a crucial chapter of Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere to life exclusively in a visual format. Praise for White Sand Vol. 1: "This book is amazing. The worldbuilding is dense and deep." - Kirkus Reviews "Essential to Cosmere completists, and it's a beautiful addition to anyones bookshelf." - Geekritique "Traditional fantasy comes to life in this intriguing blend of action, suspense, and mystery." - Graphic Policy

This was less not good than the previous not good volume.

There‘s a bit more character work. The overly complex plot is now simplified to the point of being boring - basically Kenton has to go around town asking politicians to not vote to disband the Sand Masters. He fights some assassins and a monster. That‘s it.

Also while reading this I read an article about the publisher‘s sleazy business practices* which did not help matters.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk *I already had the trilogy purchased so I‘m reading them, but I don‘t plan on spending money on Dynamite comics in the future. #SummerOfShort3 4y

The plot picked up right where the first volume left off, and the story was interesting as always. However, at times I had trouble following what was going on in the pictures. The biggest issue I had was that the drawing style changes dramatically in the last chapter due to a different illustrator. It completely threw off the dynamic for me, which brought it down to a So-So. World-building and story wise, still great.

Vol2 gets a So-So, the story is still pretty lack luster but there is more going on then before, but The biggest thing I am EXTREMELY disappointed with is the art change in the last chapter, I really loved the gritty sketchy style, while I do love a clean comic, for this particular graphic novel I really felt the grittiness fit it better. It lost a lot of appeal for me just for that alone.

Linsy I agree with the art thing. I thought maybe it was a misprint! 6y
Sweetkokoro @Linsy Sadly it‘s not, apparently they are going to be using this other artist for Vol 3. Which is really disheartening for me, the simplicity of the style just doesn‘t fit the story in my opinion. 6y
