The tone of irreverence & intimate familiarity gives this #vegan #cookbook much of its appeal. Her advice about the “cheese” sauce, made with potato & carrot, is: “Trust me on this one—don‘t mess with it. You‘ll be tempted to, ‘cause I know you. But don‘t.” Badass Brunches intro: “If you ain‘t about that brunch life, don‘t even talk to me!” Heavy reliance on deep frying & tofu & fake meat, however, isn‘t my style. I‘ll try a few things. #Canadian

BookBabe Ha, that‘s a great quote! 😄 5y

Lauren Toyota‘s chapter introductions and recipe headers are the best thing about this #cookbook:

“My pasta cravings are real and frequent. So can we just stop with the pasta shaming? When you want pasta, eat pasta. ‘Cause YOLO! Anyone who attempts to talk you out of eating pasta isn‘t a real friend. Rant over.”

AlaMich I agree in theory, but if I ate pasta whenever I craved it...well, let‘s just say my pants wouldn‘t thank me! 😬 5y

There‘s not much to say or divulge about tartar sauce. It‘s dang good and it‘s not hiding any secrets because it‘s basically just dill pickles and mayo. I mean, if you‘re really lazy just combine these two things and call it a day. But in the Hot for Food kitchen we keep things fancy AF, so here‘s the real deal that‘s slathered on the Filet-O-Tempeh Sandwich.

There are some surprising recipes in this #cookbook, including a ramen veggie burger (pictured above), mashed potatoes made into waffles, and breaded deep-fried avocado stuffed with jackfruit.
