pickOh, so much a pick! The ending was pat and abrupt, but eh, it's middle grade. Loved the focus on team work, problem solving, independent action, and preserverance; and the dog characters were fantastic (the author owns dogs). I can't wait to make a gift of this.

Huh, that accidentally looks like I'm being a responsible adult and screening a book before passing it on; I'm actually just really greedy and want to read this so bad, the premise is amazing.

pickA mission to colonize a distant planet includes four dogs, specially trained (maybe enhanced?) to assist the mission. But the dogs emerge from stasis to find their ship damaged and the human crew gone. If the dogs want to complete their mission they'll have to do it alone. I love the old-school hard-science sensibility, and of course I love the dogs. It's for a middle school audience and shows it in diction and humor, but super fun for what it is.
