Road to Newgate
Road to Newgate | Kate Braithwaite
10 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
What price justice? London 1678. Titus Oates, an unknown preacher, creates panic with wild stories of a Catholic uprising against Charles II. The murder of a prominent Protestant magistrate appears to confirm that the Popish Plot is real. Only Nathaniel Thompson, writer and Licenser of the Presses, instinctively doubts Oates's revelations. Even his young wife, Anne, is not so sure. And neither know that their friend William Smith has personal history with Titus Oates. When Nathaniel takes a public stand, questioning the plot and Oates's integrity, the consequences threaten them all.

A bit worried I am going on too often about my own book but it is #free right now on Amazon. If you like #historical fiction with a mystery involved, this might appeal....

Pickpick

A well researched and enjoyable historical thriller combining fact with fiction set during the reign of King Charles II.
An impressive piece of writing. It's very vivid, gritty and atmospheric. The descriptions of life during such a tempestuous time time in history are fascinating and so easy to visualise. There is much attention to to detail. The murder mystery itself is gripping and intriguing, quite the page turner. Highly recommended.

Kate.Braithwaite @VanessaCW -thanks so much for reading and taking the time to review! 👍 6y

A present to me from me. A fantastic hand drawn map of the London coffee shops where one of the characters in my new book spends way too much time. Good for his work, not so good for his marriage. The Road To Newgate is out on Monday 🎉🎉🎉
