Rad Girls Can
Rad Girls Can: Stories of Bold, Brave, and Brilliant Young Women | Kate Schatz
7 posts | 3 read | 6 to read
From the New York Times best-selling authors of Rad Women Worldwide and Rad American Women A-Z, a bold and brave collection of stories and art about inspiring and accomplished girls who have made positive impacts on the world before the age of 20. You might know the stories of Malala Yousafzai, Anne Frank, Jazz Jennings, and Joan of Arc. But have you heard about Yusra Mardini, a Syrian refugee who swam a sinking boat to shore, saved twenty lives, then went on to compete as an Olympic swimmer? Or Trisha Prabhu, who invented an anti-cyberbullying app at age 13? Or Barbara Rose Johns, whose high school protest helped spark the civil rights movement? In Rad Girls Can, you'll learn about a diverse group of young women who are living rad lives, whether excelling in male-dominated sports like boxing, rock climbing, or skateboarding; speaking out against injustice and discrimination; expressing themselves through dance, writing, and music; or advocating for girls around the world. Each profile is paired with the dynamic paper-cut art that made the authors' first two books New York Times best sellers. Featuring both contemporary and historical figures, Rad Girls Can offers hope, inspiration, and motivation to readers of all ages and genders.

This is locally published and features local writers, illustrators, and muralists. The writing is fine (gets stronger as the book goes on) and isn‘t oppressively bibliotherapeutic. It took some getting used to, but I came to like the illustration style. If you need a book full of diverse kids doing socially just activities surrounded by caring, supportive adults, this will do the trick. ISBN: 9781733983600 (2)

Went to a great book reading event in #Brooklyn with the author & illustrator of “Rad Girls Can” with special guest speakers. Such a great, informative, FUN book about rad young women doing big things! One speaker was 13 year old Egypt Ufele, featured in the book - the youngest designer to ever present at #NYFW! 😍🙌🏻💪🏻Event was at Books Are Magic, a great lil‘ indie bookshop!

Digging into this one so I can get my review up for its release 💕
I am almost half way through and loving it! It's going slowly but only because I keep stopping to go look up videos and articles about these young women. One such is Muslim Girls Making Change and their slam poetry. They have one called 'Wake Up America' that I have watched twice now.

@tenspeedpress and @penguinrandomhouse were awesome enough to send me Rad Girls Can by Kate Schatz and Miriam Klein Stanley! This showcases amazing young women under 20 who have broken ground, pushed forward and became forces in the world. A perfect companion to the writer duo's book Rad Women Worldwide, which I loved.

Rad Girls Can will go on sale July 17th! I can't wait to dig in and get a review up for you guys!

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Looks good! 6y
