Family dysfunction, mental health, and trauma were all explored in this impactful piece of #ozfiction. I felt the big issues were realistically portrayed and I liked the hint of humour in how it was done. Having said that, however, I‘m still sort of left with a feeling of wanting more. The book was quite short, and maybe that‘s why, but I just didn‘t seem to connect to the characters as deeply as I wanted to.

CarolynM Yes, I liked it, but I never felt fully engaged with the characters. It was good, but it could have been better. 4y

JennyM @CarolynM completely agree. It could have gone much deeper - I wanted to know more about each of them. Thanks for the recommendation. I‘ll keep an eye out for any more by the author. 4y

The story of a dysfunctional family, from the first meeting of the parents in 1972 through episodes over 40 years of happiness, tragedies, conflicts, estrangements and reunions as their children grow and mature until the present. It touched on some dark subjects and felt truthful in its depiction of the family's difficulties, but there was a strange coolness about it that kept me from really feeling for the characters. A qualified pick. #ozfiction
