Antigone
Antigone | Jean Anouilh
5 posts | 25 read | 2 to read
Full Length, Tragedy / 8m, 4f Produced in modern dress in New York with Katherine Cornell and Sir Cedric Hardwicke, the Galantiere version of the Greek legend comes from a Paris that suffered under the heel of tyranny. The play's parallels to modern times are exciting and provocative. "Its dimensions are noble, its intentions uncompromising."-Southwestern University, Texas

Really like Antigone by Anouilh.
Well written, with some humorous parts. From the beginning, the fate of the different characters is divulged, but despite knowing, we are hoping for a different ending.

I enjoyed the French interpretation of the classic Sophocles' play. Check out my essay here: https://wp.me/p935Rf-tl #amreading #bookworm #bibliophile #bookish #booknerdigans #bookblogger #tsundoku #greatreads #readmorebooks #coolgirlsread

TNG 3.09 #TheVengeanceFactor I like this episode, despite it trying to convince us Riker is irresistible to women. The plot would have worked better without the romance being forced in it. A story of mystery and multi-generational vendetta that unfolds logically into (Greek) tragedy. It's basically an Antigone retelling in the future. Therefore, I tagged my favourite retelling by Jean Anhouil.

Megabooks Nice! I haven‘t read Antigone itself since high school, but I‘m sure I‘ve read and watched countless retellings without consciously realizing it. I‘m the worst at picking out retellings! 5y
RamsFan1963 Yes Riker's "romance" with Yuta was the worst part of this episode. I'm glad they married Riker to Troi later in the movies and books, he was getting too old for that tomcat behavior. 5y
Karisa I had forgotten about this episode! They were always trying to force the romance on Riker. Maybe a tribute to Kirk? 🤣 5y

tournevis @Karisa Except Kirk mostly used his masculine wilds for getting out of bad situations or was placed in situations where his consent was dubious as best. Honestly, look at the episodes again, his reputation as a womanizer is not supported by canon. Riker on the other hand... 5y
tournevis @Megabooks Kind of my job to up on those things. There's no merit. 5y

I read this in translation in high school and then found this copy in a used bookstore when I was in college. I always loved the fact that it was allowed to be staged in occupied France because to the Nazis it was just an old Greek play, but the to the French it was a direct criticism of the Nazi regime. #minimalistcovers #jubilantJuly @RealLifeReading
