All Good Things | Michael Jan Friedman

That was my feelings at the end of Star Trek: The Next Generation run. I was sorry to see it go, but I was happy for the lasting memories it gave me. For me, the best scene was the final one, when Picard joins the crew to play poker. It summed up the series perfectly, not just crewmates but family.

Megabooks I love the poker scene, and when Picard says, “The sky‘s the limit.” It was an ending worthy of the series. Not my favorite, but probably the most satisfying. What do you think of Star Trek: Picard? 5y

Megabooks @RamsFan1963 Wouldn‘t Data have to be B4 because they killed him off on that (crappy) last TNG movie? Maybe Data dying is what got him out of Starfleet? Frakes is a fantastic director. I like some of Burton‘s and RD McNeill from VOY‘s as well. I will always say Spiner is the finest all-around character actor in ST. 5y

Geeklet I was 10 or so when that episode aired. I recorded it on VHS and I swear, I probably watched it 3 times a week that entire summer. I had more or less grown up with TNG. It was such a beautiful ending to the show but man, 10 year old Erica was just crushed. 5y

The Shepherd's Crown | Terry Pratchett

Another grand universe that has been important to me since I was a child, but the difference between The Shepherd's Crown and All Good Things is that I haven't been brave enough to say goodbye to the Disc yet...

I adore All Good Things! A truly wonderful finale that brings me to the edge of tears when I do so much as think about that last scene. I love TNG, flaws and all, and this is a great endpoint for that crew.

Encounter at Farpoint | David Gerrold

TNG 7.25&26 #AllGoodThings Excellently written finale, just enough call backs to episodes & charaters to please fans, but not enough to make it tacky. Good aging makeup, Denise Crosby and a clever wrap up to the pilot Encounter at Farpoint. I cried a lot. I'm tagging a call back to the pilot too.

TNG‘s not my fav ST series (it's too uneven) but it established the ST universe like not other. Looking forward to Star Trek: Picard. #startreksummermay

tournevis @Megabooks ENT was an unfortunate series. They were badly served by Paramount, the producers and the series bible. They painted themselves into a corner and that's largely why they had the finale they had. The acting was good, the production was shallow and tentative. 5y

twohectobooks TNG is my favourite from growing up with it, but I also say DS9 was best. 5y

Station Eleven: A novel | Emily St. John Mandel

Station Eleven is my all-time favorite book. I love the seamless blending of past, present & future. I love “Survival is insufficient.” I have read it either on audio or in print many times.

#AllGoodThings on ST:TNG is not my fav final episode, but it is the one that nicely blends past, present, and future. Q, the omnipotent being that gave humanity a test in the pilot, tells Picard the test was never over, but Picard passes the final test. 🎉🍾

Journey's End | Rachel Hawkins

Ever seen this movie? I bawled my eyes out at the end, when Chance and Sassy came over the hill without old Shadow, I thought he was dead, then he appears. 😭😭😭

I don't even like Wesley Crusher, but even I have to admit he got totally shafted by this episode. I don't care for the whole Traveler concept, and shuffling Wesley off to be some kind of higher being was lame.

Megabooks Once again, I find your quote intriguing. My first thought: Given that I am a woman of reproductive age, I‘ve had a lot of friends lose pregnancies, and then call the next child their rainbow baby. There does seem to be happiness with the new child, but it seems one can never make up for the other(s). All of this is strange to me given that I‘m ace and have never wanted kids. But that‘s what immediately came to mind. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y

In this essay, Silko starts off with a direct attack of one of Barbara Kingsolver‘s books, The Bean Trees. Silko makes the point that when an author writes about another culture or community, in this case the Cherokee, and engages in stereotypes, this type of representation has real-life impacts. Silko puts the adoption story in the cultural context of detribalization.

As it happens, I hated The Bean Trees when I read it.

Oh, Journey's End. You're not very good, are you? The movie writers ignore the climatic choice Wes maked and everyone would like to ignore the Indigenous botch job (and I'm including Voyager in this sad shake of my head). Do better, franchise!
Tagged book is one that has been on my tbr for awhile! I hear nothing but good things.

The Road to Jonestown: Jim Jones and Peoples Temple | Jeff Guinn

This #JourneysEnd is one of the most tragic that I‘ve read about and watched documentaries about. Jim Jones‘ decent into delusions and paranoia led to tragic consequences in the jungles of Guyana. Heartbreaking! Excellent #audiobook.

The episode is probably one of the worst of the series. It‘s basically to write Wesley off of all future (cannon) storylines. And Beverly giving him the blanket - lame! #StarTrekSummerMay
