Mixed inspirations: pieced quilts, South Asian lacquerware, Greek and Finnish textiles, and traditional Ukrainian pysanky.

Pysanky: I used to make these every year, but it became too difficult to find white eggs with sturdy shells

Lindy @Freespirit @batsy Thanks! I also used to paint glass Christmas ornaments. I remember wondering why I had such an affinity for making round & fragile art. 5y

I lost my original copy of this charming little book, published by the Ukrainian Museum in Saskatoon in 1977. Today I went to the museum and purchased a new copy. I‘m very happy. I might even start decorating pysanky again.

MCYmermaid Yay, reacquisitions! 6y
marianese ooh that must be fun but hard! 6y

Lindy @marianese It‘s a wax resist technique, so you need to think about colours from light to dark, and you don‘t see the results until you melt off all the wax at the end, so it IS fun. It takes practice to make steady lines, but otherwise it isn‘t hard. 6y
marianese @Lindy I'm in a very nesting mood since the heatwave broke and I could see trying this out in the fall! 6y
Lindy @marianese Do you have somewhere to get supplies? You will need a stylus, beeswax and dye. I use dye especially packaged for pysanky; it‘s available at Ukrainian shops. 6y
LeahBergen What a great purchase! 6y
marianese @Lindy I will have to search! I live in Berlin but I will be in New Jersey in October, might be able to rustle something up from an NYC shop. 6y
