The Cabinet of Linguistic Curiosities
The Cabinet of Linguistic Curiosities: A Yearbook of Forgotten Words | Paul Anthony Jones
3 posts | 1 read | 1 reading | 8 to read
Paul Anthony Jones has unearthed a wealth of strange and forgotten words: illuminating some aspect of the day, or simply telling a cracking good yarn, each reveals a story. Written with a light touch that belies the depth of research it contains, this is both a fascinating compendium of etymology and a captivating historical miscellany.

My Christmas book haul from my spouse (the bottom seven) and my sister (the one on top, tagged). Between prepping lasagna and enjoying family movie time, I probably won't have a lot of time to read today, but hopefully I can work lots of sofa time into my schedule in the next week.

Ruthiella Nice stack! 👍 2y
ImperfectCJ I just realized that I already read the Sally Rooney book (it seemed familiar, but it was a “pan“ for me, so maybe that's why it escaped my memory). Already making progress on the Christmas stack! 2y

Want to be a word-grubber? Then this is the book for you 😁 I loved the idea of an obscure word and its story a day! I think I'll be giving out some copies to my word nerd friends for Christmas. Thanks to #netgalley for a chance to read and enjoy this fun book.

Was not expecting this much accuracy from an @bookriot quiz! It‘s amazing how many words there are, just in the English language, that are so unused that most people have no clue what you‘re talking about. Go take the quiz & learn something new🤗 #wordadaykeepsthefoolsaway

Louise I got “kerfuffle”, saying I‘m full of energy and hard to ignore. Hmmm. These days, I‘d venture to say that‘s wildly inaccurate! 😂 6y
