Kingdom of Strangers
Kingdom of Strangers: A Novel | Zo Ferraris
6 posts | 5 read | 41 to read
A secret grave is unearthed in the desert revealing the bodies of 19 women and the shocking truth that a serial killer has been operating undetected in Jeddah for more than a decade. However, lead inspector Ibrahim Zahrani is distracted by a mystery closer to home. His mistress has suddenly disappeared, but he cannot report her missing since adultery is punishable by death. With nowhere to turn, Ibrahim brings the case to Katya, one of the few women in the police department. Drawn into both investigations, she must be increasingly careful to hide a secret of her own. Portraying the lives of women in one of the most closed cultures in the world, award-winning author Zo Ferraris weaves a tale of psychological suspense around an elusive serial killer and the sinister forces trafficking in human lives in Saudi Arabia.

#adventrecommends Day 16 @emilyrose_x
There are three books in this series by Zoe Ferraris; the tagged book is the third & final one. A trilogy of mysteries set in Saudi Arabia, the books feature the amateur sleuthing of Palestinian desert guide Nayir al-Sharqi, along with forensic lab technician Katya Hijazi. For me, this insider‘s view of a woman‘s (Katya) life in Saudi Arabia was a real eye-opener. Ferraris, born in Oklahoma, lived in ⬇️

gradcat (Cont) Saudi Arabia with her husband and in-laws in the early 90s. The first book in the series is titled “Finding Nouf;” the second is “City of Veils.” All of them are good reads, and depict Saudi life really well. (edited) 6y

Secret mass grave of murdered women under the #sand of Jeddah. Forensic technician Katya Hijazi is sought by the lead inspector.
I greatly enjoyed the first book featuring the forensic professional-turned-Detective in Finding Nouf aka The Night of the Mi'raj. This is a #crime #thriller #series to continue #ReadingResolutions

batsy That's fascinating. I've read very little fiction set in Saudi Arabia, much less crime fiction. 7y

Pickpick

The secretive world of women in Saudi Arabia. Katya, one of few policewomen in Jeddah, finds herself on the hunt for a missing woman & a serial killer, while hiding her own secret. Katya's a great heroine, & Ferraris‘s writing is so vividly detailed, you can feel heat burning off the sands.-Flannery

Ambam Ooh I'm intrigued. Added to stack! 8y
