Love as Always, Mum xxx
Love as Always, Mum xxx: The true and terrible story of surviving a childhood with Fred and Rose West | Mae West
7 posts | 7 read | 4 to read
'A CHILLING new memoir by the daughter of mass murderer Fred West and his wife Rose describes the savage cruelty of her upbringing in 25 Cromwell Street, Gloucester' DAILY MAIL 'Mae, I mean this ... I'm not a good person and I let all you children down ...' Rose West, HM PRISON DURHAM It has taken over 20 years for Mae West to find the perspective and strength to tell her remarkable story: one of an abusive, violent childhood, of her serial killer parents and how she has rebuilt her life in the shadow of their terrible crimes. Through her own memories, research and the letters her mother wrote to her from prison, Mae shares her emotionally powerful account of her life as a West. From a toddler locked in the deathly basement to a teen fighting off the sexual advances of her father, Mae's story is one of survival. It also answers the questions: how do you come to terms with knowing your childhood bedroom was a graveyard? How do you accept the fact your parents sexually tortured, murdered and dismembered young women? How do you become a mother yourself when you're haunted by the knowledge that your own mother was a monster? Why were you spared and how do you escape the nightmare?

I wouldn't say this is a good book but it does have some detailed information in it to fill in gaps.
The thing that pissed me off with this is the fact she kept in contact with her mother after she was found guilty and then went about life as normal. You don't keep in contact with people if they have been sentenced to life imprisonment for multiple murderers and sexual abuse of you and your siblings.#readingthelibrary #librarybook #fredandrosewest

kaysworld1 It took me 2 attempts to read this book. It's not a book I will ever read again. Bit it did give me a insight to what the children went threw and how far the reporter's and journalists would go for a juicy story, and that is shameful on them! 4y
TrishB I have no idea how she could still keep in contact either 🤷‍♀️ 4y
ljuliel I don‘t like books when someone‘s family member is found guilty of horrible crimes , then they write a book about it ( or do a podcast) to tell the world. If I had a family member who did those things , I‘d change my name and move far away or else I‘d spend the rest of my life trying to change laws and make things more difficult for the criminals, and better for victim‘s families. 4y
kaysworld1 @TrishB It was strange she could cut off her dad in second's but it took almost loosing her closest sister to start shutting the door on her mother so to speak. 4y

#currentlyreading this book.
It's not a good subject to read about but I am always interested in everyone's side of things.
From what I have read so far Mae is defending her mother and blaming everything on her dad, that's making me angry they both took park in everything! #librarybook #readingthelibrary #fredandrosewest #truecrime #murder #reading #books ☠️💀📚🔪

rockpools Wow, that sounds like a difficult read. 4y

Fred West became the most notorious #criminal from my adopted home town of Gloucester in the early 90s, when, along with his wife Rosemary, he was investigated for and charged with the murders of several young women, including his own daughter. Part of me wants to read this memoir from their daughter Mae. A bigger part of me just can‘t bring myself to!

Cinfhen It‘s always more difficult to read these types of stories when you feel a bit of a “connection”. I‘m sure it‘s a fascinating story. 5y
KarenUK This sounds like a brutal read... 5y
Clutterbucks_Queen I finished this the other day, it opened my eyes to things i didn't even know had happened, but it's the sort of book that makes you want to shake your head in disgust and sadness.. 5y

I don't think this is a book i could bring myself to read again as it is so heartbreaking, but ot was interesting to find out more about the Wests crimes.

R.I.P to all of 11 victims and to the two unborn children and baby that were also murdered 😞

That's all i feel able to say to be honest..

readingjedi This sounds like one of those books I want to read but don't want to read at the same time. I remember this being in the news & the horrors just kept coming & coming ... 😢 5y
Clutterbucks_Queen The only thing about this book that annoyed me slightly was they didn't regard as victims the full term babies that got killed while the mothers were at the end of their pregnancies with them. 5y
Clutterbucks_Queen It is really sad, and quite sickening tbh. There is a lot of sexual abuse that went on from parents to children that is horrific 5y

I have read up to chapter 6 and so far this book has done nothing but disgust me and make me want to shake the nasty images formed from my head away...
I knew the basics of Fred and Rosemary Wests crimes from watching several documentaries on what they done, but what those poor children, and Mae in particular in regards to this book, went through is so heartbreaking and worse than i could ever have imagined! 😞
